Using I-Phone with Foreflight in the Air

Does anyone know if it will work in the air (I'm talking single-engine prop altitudes)? I would just try it out, but I'm not planning on flying a 172 any time in the near future. Would it work or would you need a GPS receiver? I noticed if I look at a sectional on the ground it will give my position on the map. I was just curious if it would pick up while airborne.

It works in the King Air most of the time up to 35,000 so I don't see why it wouldn't work in a 172.

I-pad with Verizon cell built in works great with Foreflight on low altitude routes here in the PacNoWest...Two different tablets so far no failures, I Phone should do just as good....

Yes it will work. This forum app won't let me upload the screen shot I took, but I just used ForeFlight at 45,000' over the weekend.

+1 to what everyone else has said. I have never had any issues with getting position data in the air with my iPhone.
