User Fees on the table again.

I don't think it will happen at all. Obama doesn't have the horsepower to do anything. He waffled way too much the past 3 years.
Which, as one of his more ardent supporters in 2008, has me sadly disappointed. But not disappointed enough to vote for Perry-Bachmann...

That's fantastic, but I doubt you guys will get hit with this. You'd better believe that FedEx has the lobbying power to make sure that doesn't happen.

Everyone will have the lobbying power to make sure it doesn't happen to them. Hence it ain't gonna happen.

there is no money fairy, and it's either coming out of people using the system paying for it, or my taxes continuing to subsidize their usage.

But you said it wouldn't affect you, no? The taxes you pay, I'm sure, have an effect on your financial state.

Why are you guys so emotionally involved about issues that don't affect YOUR bottom line.

I don't understand how guys can't be upset over this. The mindset of 'hey it doesn't affect me' boggles my mind. If they target turbine aircraft, and you're not flying one, or need to pay the fee, than hey, it's fine, right? When they decide they're not making enough money and they do finally start to target piston aircraft, then what? Whose going to be left to stand up against it? I'm sure you've heard the "First they came..." analogy plenty of times, and while an extreme example it may be, it still applies. To trust that the government is only setting their sights on wealthy individuals, is crazy. It's only a matter of time that pistons are targeted too, if this actually passes.

Or $2,500 for a day of contacting ATC 25 times in a turbine jump plane? Geez.

But hey, it's only $100 bucks! You're telling me you can't afford that!? :sarcasm:

I've already said it once, stop the wasteful spending first!

"Slippery slope" is only fallacious if there's no causal link--Otherwise, it's a generally logical extension of a concept to its likely conclusion.

In this case, given the history of government and the prevailing sociopolitical ideology in this country, I'd say it's logical extrapolation, not a fallacious non-sequitur.

Considering the previous talk a year or two ago included GA Piston and now it doesn't, I would say it is absolutely a fallacy.

This more than anything else supports the slippery slope argument. You can't have an 'imaginary slope'. It has to start somewhere-- The fact that a year or two ago they proposed GA piston aircraft means that it's on the collective mind of the lawmakers; the fact that the idea met sufficient resistance that it failed to gain a foothold implies nothing but that -- that they don't yet have a foothold.

Once they get the -concept- of a fee-based system accepted, it's much less effort to expand its scope to include other classes. Maybe not the grass-strip J3 at first, and only $5 for the corporate Navajo ... but then, just like everything else, fees increase, new fees are added, scope is expanded...

No?

As long as these user fees stay away from the weekend warriors, flight schools, and other non 135 or corporate operators I'm happy. I don't want to pay 33 dollars every time I practice an ILS at my local airport like they already do in the U.K. I fear that 100 dollars per flight for corporate jets is just the start of a chain that will eventually lead to user fees galore for everyone in the sky.

This is why it's so difficult to get anything done on Capitol Hill. Everyone protects their backyard to the point that they won't approve anything that might infringe on it in the future.

... I want to point out that as a Regional Pilot who serve CAL...there is no AVP to BOS service....you got the name of the airport wrong so in my mind the rest is discredited from there.
If you notice the reference line, the info came from an article in Bizjournal from Feb 2006. As you know, routes change and ICAO identifiers, airport names and airline codes don't always match (such as GSO calling itself PTIA). Regardless of the dates and places, the facts stand that local municipalities pay the airlines and give them tax breaks, then complain that others aren't "paying" enough?

The reason people get emotional is that certain organizations pander to the public masses trying to validate false ideals. Such as ads and airline videos blaming "fat cat" CEOs for the airlines' poor performance and on time reliability. The fact is that those "fat cats" are paying far more than the average Joe will ever realize. The airlines account for over 75% of the volume and claim others aren't paying enough, while conveniently leaving out their tax breaks, waived fees, and free ad revenue.

Could you imaging the out cry if it were the Execs getting the tax breaks, kickbacks, waived fees, and cheap fuel taxes??? Yet the airlines are the ones crying poormouth....What a bunch of hypocrites.

The fact is, we are being lied to. Businesses move money around so they can act like they don't have the cash to pay us. The government does the same thing, whether through national debt, war, or whatever key phrase of the week the news feels like using. Every single person in this country who isn't in the top 1% is being robbed blind. This is just another fee, fine, paycut, etc. being shoved down our throats.
