User fee Proposal in FY2008 Budget from FAA

Sport Pilot Flying, (and initial training) here we come!

Below 1200', no radio, no services,...aahhh, looks like I'll go out ther same way I came in.:)

What i still cannot understand is why with all the bankrupt airlines and the incompetent management that run them into the ground are not being looked at under the microscope by the government. This is going to be the worst thing that they could do to the GA world! Why do we have to be the ones to bail out the idiots that cannot run a business in aviation. There will be hell to pay for this for sure. They think there is a pilot startup/shortage just wait! We really do have a bunch of MORONS running this country!!

I better get flying now before i can no longer afford it.

Anyone think, this could make wages for CFIs go up in the future?

Less people learning to fly means less CFIs out there equals a demand for CFIs?

I suppose at this moment there is no way to tell but it could happen?

Oh great!

I can see it already!

Pilot in distress: Mayday mayday mayday! Sir Cessna 432 Papa Whiskey, we've lost the engine, I need vectors to the nearest airport, declaring an emergency!

ATC: Would you like to pay Visa, MasterCard, or AmEx?

Pilot in distress: Sir, I NEED vectors to nearest airport.

ATC: And I need a credit card number.

Pilot in distress: Damn*t! Fine it's Visa, # 0000 1234 5678 0000

ATC: Thank you, expiration?

Pilot in distress: Ummmmm, 06/2008.

ATC: Thank you, standby for credit card approval.

[All this time, pilot loses altitude]

Pilot in distress: *sigh*

ATC: Okay, your credit card's been accepted. Turn right heading 240, vectors direct to XXX airport.

Pilot in distress: Great, thanks, I've got only 500 more feet to go. I can't make it to XXX airport.

ATC: Oh, say intention?

Pilot in distress: I'm gonna put her down on this empty field I see below ahead of me.

ATC: Ok, but so you know, I have to charge your credit card simply for talking to you, even though we couldn't help you much.

Pilot in distress: [thinks]: *stupid jerk!*

Everyone is talking like this has already happened! Come on people we still have a little less that 9 months before anything will be decided! Its not to late and if everyone gets involved then the voices will be heard.

Besides we've got AOPA gearing up for war lol

Wrong!! You better get on your phone and start calling your elected officials before you go flying.

I wish. What it may do is make instructing hard as hell to get into. With less pilots, there are less demands for CFI's.

The other thing is this- if they make it expensive as hell to fly now, and less people get into it, and there is less of a demand for CFI's it will back the WHOLE shebang up....think they are scraping the bucket now for qualified pilots at the airlines? If this happens wait 5 years, there will be virtually no one around....

Well the sky isn't falling yet. This is ONLY a proposal from Bush. If you look at the past budget proposals, hardly anything he has requested makes it through Congress without significant change. Still call and write your elected officials, but this is only a proposal, and they way Bush treats transportation in his last 6 proposals, this is really no surprise.

Not only should we support aopa but we should also be taking action against this. GA is not dead until we roll over and expect someone else to fight our fight. I think it is time for all of us to write to our congressmen!
