Well guys/gals - the time has come. The wicked witch of the west is listening to the airlines in regards to funding the NAS.

Brace yourselves for increased training costs, lower GA population, and ultimately an end of fun, cheap, flying.

I'd highly suggest everyone gets on the damn phone and begin calling your elected officials. You have no one but yourselves to blame if you do not.

I think cheap, fun flying has already met it's end. 110 bucks for a 152??? Glad I have my licenses already.

If you want to fly for a living, get the training done NOW because if this sticks around then training costs are going to skyrocket. We can kiss general aviation goodbye with this.

This really pisses me off. I want to stay in GA and not go to the airlines, but that may have to change now.

Just fly around with 7600 in the xpndr and don't talk to anyone...

This is not good though, any idea of how much extra your typical 2 hour training flight around the hood is going to cost now?

Like I said dude, get up to the next job ASAP. Instructing is sweet, but it's going to be a dead art here soon.

"GA" is going to stand for "gone away" soon if this happens. :(

So the airlines get their way with the gov to save money and have GA contribute too. Good on them but what happens when there are no new pilots being created?

Looks like the airlines will have to build their own flight schools and pay for their student's training to build pilots themselves.

Wonder which option is cheaper?

I can see the airlines complaining in the future that there aren't enough pilots out there and the government needs to foot the bill to provide pilots to keep the airlines flying.

Unfortunately, there's an endless supply of kids with the "D00d! I can be a 747 captain in under six weeks of training and I can finance it all AND get frequent flyer miles?" attitude.

Hey, I was one of them too until I found out how much it was going to cost to finance that pipedream.

Jetcareers set me straight on that idea.

If it gets too expensive for folks, that may end it.

Then they'll push for relaxing cabotage laws and then we'll have snarky dorks like Branson flying between SFO and MCI and Air Durkadurkistan flying Tu-154's between DFW and ORD with a Chechen flight crew being paid in Indian Rupees.

And then the real money will be in working as part of an FAA Go Team since the demand will be so high for crash investigators.

I think I will be driving by then.

Well, people expect to buy groceries and gas on their credit cards, want to fly for free and have white glove service because they're frequent fliers but haven't had their butt in a seat in 36 months.... ;)

Is the ticket $50?? Count me in!

How much of an increase are we talking about for flight training? The government should not be able to do this. Is everyone basically telling everyone that you won't be able to come a pilot anymore because of this? You can't just get rid of general aviation, that's not ethical.

Think of charges for getting a briefing, filing flight plans, using ANY ATC services. Then, compound that over the duration of your training and add that to your costs now, and it will price many people out of the game.

That, or you'll have everybody ducking under, going around any airspace, not talking to anybody, just to try to save money. Watch those airspace violations go up in the future!!
