USAirways Selling 10 E190's Final Stages

It's the "Mainlineization" of a regional.

This has happened before. So, there is precedent.

Does that begin at the top down or bottom up?

That is an excellent, excellent question. I think the biggest thing lacking in the airlines, for labor and management, is true leadership. Some flashes are shown, like at WN, and pockets at other companies, but in general, there is a severe lack of leadership.

As we all know from our human factors studies, leadership can come from anywhere, and at any level.

We have lots of "do as I say, not as I do" and lots of weak leadership.

Hopefully, whether it's top-down or bottom-up, some leadership for that group will emerge and get it done.

These pilots are now tasked with huge responsibility with negotiations in the future or they will continue to lower the bar for the rest of the industry. I'd like to think they will do the right thing, we'll see what happens.

You and I agree 100%....it's all out to the jury for now.

I'll buy that.

The one thing to add about the top-down/bottom-up question is "Both." The two must direct the course of action that the management teams take. If there are two hard lines (majors and regionals), they fan funnel (push) management into a desirable outcome. Now all that is needed is a unifying organization to rally the two into a single message and course of action.
