Re: USAirways, not that we didn\'t see it coming

MAG = Mesa Air Group, I think.

Re: USAirways, not that we didn\'t see it coming

MAG= Mesa Air Group (or more specifically in this case Air Midwest)

And saying "ya'll" isn't really all that bad. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: USAirways, not that we didn\'t see it coming

Both Mesa Airlines and Air Midwest (both Mesa Air Group companies) have exposure to US Airways...in fact Mesa has the most exposure with 59 jets.

Re: USAirways, not that we didn\'t see it coming

Well, as in everything airline related, sit back and watch the show because there's about zip the average airline joe can do about it.

Ain't that the truth (mostly). Good time to preach the "Have a Backup Plan" sermon.

Yes, and the RJs are not EAS flying so there's no government aid to keep them flying.

"They're losing a million dollars a day, I think is what Mr. Lakefield said, and their contracts are just very out of whack with what they have to compete with."

[/ QUOTE ]

Just how "out of whack" are U's contracts? Compared to what? SWA? JetBlue? Are we now in an era where instead of calls for "United + 1%" from the pilot groups, we'll now see calls for "SWA - 1%" from management?

Re: USAirways, not that we didn\'t see it coming

Let's also not forget the rhetoric from management about how U's labor costs are out of line with WN's and B6's. Think about it, your most senior CA at jetBlue is in his / her 5th year. Your most junior FO at U is a downgraded CA who's been there 19 years. Something tells me DUH they're not going to have the same costs.

Airways has been facing a revenue problem for years; only since the economy started to slip in 2000 have they really seen it hit hard. Pre 9/11, United Airlines was set to lose $2 billion for FY 2001, and assuming no economic rebound in the U.S., would have declared bankruptcy anyway in late 2002. This straight from folks at United.

For you up-and-comers, don't let management dupe you into thinking it's your fault because you take home a paycheck.

[/ QUOTE ] 19 years? Everyone hired since 1985 has been furloughed or quit? Ouch!!! I would have thought maybe 9 years at the most.

JR

Re: USAirways, not that we didn\'t see it coming

JR: as of 14 months ago, the most junior guy at Airways had 16 years of seniority due to furloughs. It's worse now.

Keep in mind, part of what makes that look so bad is the fact that they didn't hire at all for quite a few years, leaving a huge gap. However, it's still bad.
