You know, I'm thinking there may be more to this than meets the eye.
And I'll be morale has a lot to do with it.
Like your job, like your company, like the direction it's going in? Then you'll be much more likely to show up when you're not feeling that great. You may just be tired, it may be a head cold, but you'll shake it off and go to work.
Hate the direction the company's going in and hate the fact that you're doing more work for less money? Then you'll be much more inclined to say eff this, I'm not feeling that good, I'm not going in.
