USAir East latest bid

Sucky! :(

Even our DUB to JFK trip has a relief pilot now.

The good news is, a Cactus friend of mine did say when we were discussing 117 stuff a couple weeks ago, that they now only have a single city that doesn't have a third pilot, which is SNN. Everything else at least has 3 (or 4 for TLV).

AA is all augmented on JFK-LHR now too, even the morning flight!

Good. LHR can be a ball breaker with holding and that RIDICULOUS CDA thing they require there.

That's correct. SNN is the only Europe trip that doesn't have an IRO. It's now based on longitude and SNN misses the cutoff by 18".

Only one month off.....you work too hard. I havent worked since September;)

I'm a QOL guy. The 2nd year EMB-190 CA pays more, but you'll have a better schedule, but less "Bar Bragging Rights" as a 2nd year MD-88/90 FO.

I have a whole month off. My incremental pay increase as a A320 CA is inconsequential to having a month off with A330 FO pay and not sitting reserve in the Southeast.

I hear the QOL arguments and that works great as long as the uptrend continues. But let's play a game of "what if". What if some new global financial catastrophe hits and the airlines in the USA backslide again? Who's gonna get that overseas captain job, the guy who has 500 PIC in an EMB-190 or the the guy who was right seat in an A320?

Typhoonpilot

Perhaps true if you would entertain a job with a foreign carrier.

I don't know but that was something I was thinking about as well. The 767 is a hard airplane to learn and fly. You have to learn all this new stuff about plotting tracks and reporting positions on the hf radio. That and actually having to re-learn how to trim and use the throttles and go back to steam gauges was all very overwhelming.

Meh. It's pretty damn easy if you ask me but admittedly I'm no expert. Some of the guys I work with make it out to be this pinnacle of aviation knowledge and ability that it's not. The challenges are no greater than domestic they're just different.

It's actually easier. Come to an ETOPS-capable aircraft with a fresh airworthiness release and a ETOPS pre-departure check completed, autoload your flight plan and cruise.

A lot easier than 'burg-ATL (swap jets)-'ville"-ATL (swap jets) - 'burg-ATL (swap jets)-'ville (10 hour layover, repeat)

Autoload flight plans?! You do realize these airplanes were Piedmont's, right?

Did you just say that you do to have to do a walk around?

I have a rule, I don't fly airplanes that are older than me.

In the AF, the C-5s I worked on were 10 years younger than me. They were POSs. In my current military gig, the -135s are quite a bit older, but they are like fine wines ;)

I'm married. But if you want to tell a chick at a bar that, hell, half the Comair and ASA guys were claiming to be Delta captains back in the day, and @Seggy was an "International Captain" even, say what you wanna say! :)

Come on now.....Be fair, they flew to Canada.... :)

You forgot the Mx delay in the middle, and the 3 ground delays for "flow" into the ATL because you've never left the Great State of Georgia all day, despite flying to 3 different out stations.

What is the chance a new hire in early Feb would get CLT out of the gate? Any predictions from those on the inside? I might know someone who starts then.

The last bid had vacancies on the Airbus and 767 in CLT. If you don't hold it right out of the gate, you should hold it in a bid or 2. We're being told that this is just the beginning. Of course, you have to make sure you bid the Airbus. The 190 is only based in PHL. You're locked in to your first aircraft for 12 months (as of right now).

Man what an exciting time to get hired. Thank you.

You have no idea! I met with our CP very recently for my Off Probation meeting and he said that he was pretty sure this bid was a new record...one year (or slightly less, in a couple of cases) to Captain.
