UPS to hire 200 more pilots

Just found out a good friend of mine got hired- this is his last week at Skywest! I am so stoked for him!!

He's got an inside connection, the ONT chief pilot, I think...

Are the FEs included in the pilot pool, or are they hired seperately?

I've been looking at the DC-8s and 727s and thinking about trying for my FE liscense. But I don't know where to look for training. I've looked at the written and think I could do it. I already have my A&P.

I have a neighbor that flies for UPS out of Louisville and from what I understand all pilots start as an FE. He was a Citation X pilot before going to UPS and held an FE position for almost a year before upgrade. I could be wrong and this may only apply to pilots without heavy jet experience.

been applying for years now...still no luck. I guess I'll keep on sending them in and pray....

Hey UPS, got any use for a 1300-ish hour RJ FO?

Yeah didn't think so.

Getting your FE would do you no good. Don't bother. You need 1000 PIC turbine and at least one recommendation.

I've recommended two friends who are both RJ check airmen and neither have got called yet....as far as I know. One is Skywest and the other Mesa.

Soon, we will be hiring into the right seat as more and more over 60 retreads go to the FE seat.

Minus the recommendation, have got the rest. Got any use for someone like me? I mean, in a way, I sorta fly quasi-UPS type stuff now.....take off with cargo, go to a destination, drop it off there, and come back.

Grog now auto-mation trained now too! It was tough, but they dragged me kicking and screaming into the glass world successfully.....

I´ve heard UPS doesn't put much emphsis on the recommendation unless we´ve flown with the person. I trained both the guys I recommended for their IFR ratings in the 90's.

Now...if you could get me a ride in a two seat F117, so I could say I've flown with you, we might be able to work something out. That....and a beer....

(I don't know if there is a two seat 117 or not...so if there is and I'm not supposed to know, please don't shoot me)

Unfortunately, not two seat 117. Academics, a few sims, and get the boot out the door.....first solo is truly first solo.

I'm still looking for that 117 they had in "Executive Decision", with the 8-man cargo bay.

And I thought all F-117s were like that. So what's behind your seat, a wall?

If you're talking about "PFE's" then you'd be out of luck. They've gone the way of the dinosaurs many moons ago. The FE written is still required. Along with that you'll need about 5000tt and AT LEAST 1000PIC turbine to just be competitive.

With the current state of many major airlines, UPS has no shortage of "over-qualified" applicants (meaning everyone has much more than just the required advertised mins).

Plus, you're operating at night and have a guarantee delivery time. I think that'll be a good angle to use during the interview!

BTW, I just had a line check a couple nights ago by one of our management checkairman (ex-F16 driver). He told me his buddy just interviewed at UPS. He said he was a Lt Colonel currently flying the F117 but was close to retirement. I didn't catch his buddy's name though. His buddy didn't think the sim eval went so hot since he had spent his entire career in single seat fighters.

Former FedEx employees have a better shot at FedEx than others, I think. Looks like we're hiring 400 or more this year, probably have 200 new pilots on the property by May.
