UPS Pilots: 1400 apply for 100 open positions!

I can see if/why a Pinnacle Captain made the jump to UPS.

But *TWO* America West pilots ???? Esp. one a captain at the age 39 ?

Well, anyway, I feel good for those 100 who did get in!

A300Capt, did you walk in a resume/put in a word for any of the 100 pilots? I only ask cause I wanted to know [roughly]what percentage of those 100 pilots had an internal UPS pilot recommendation.

Re: UPS Pilots: 1200 apply for 100 open positions!

if i remember correctly America West has the lowest paid major airline pilots in the US.

Re: UPS Pilots: 1200 apply for 100 open positions!

I'm not sure if that means much anymore after all the paycuts.

US Airways Airbus/737 $125/hr.

Spirit $123 / hour

Jetblue A320 $ 139/ hour

Independance A319 $132/hour

As you can see, I think AWA is on par along the LCC. F/O pay is more or less the same for the carriers above. BTW, I included US Airways in there to show the pay cut comparison.

I dunno. But what I can say for sure is that if I was at AWA, esp as a Capt. at 39 years of age, I sure would NOT jump ship, unless of course the carrier went under.

also with US Airways consider that the last person to get captain was hired in Feb of 1986

You don't know his personal situation so you don't need to understand why because there could be many variables

-Domicile
-Family
-Pay in the long run
-UPS is a better company
-Different aircraft
-He wanted something new/different
-etc

I don't know where they got that 1400 figure. UPS told us they would interview applicants who had an LOR from a current UPS pilot first. Maybe 1400 LOR's were submitted and that's where that figure came from. I heard there were something in the neighborhood of 14,000 resumes on file.

I did submit a referral on a ex USAir friend but he hasn't heard anything yet.

I imagine someone would leave another carrier based on long term stability and growth potential.

I recommended a friend who's a check airman on the RJ at Mesa just last week.

For bonus points. Who can name the cockpit in the photo at the link to the news story?

"Riad Chehab of Boca Raton, Fla., had a steady job and high seniority with Pinnacle Airlines, based in Memphis, Tenn."

I gotta find this person.

Back to christmas decorations...

There were probably a lot more, but probably only about 1400 of perhaps the 10,000 who applied fit the minimum qualifications.

Get the degree folks, else you won't even be on the radar screen.
