UPS MD-11 crash at SDF

Letterman style - top things that get the blood flowing for the Boomers in the online aviation space:

Blue pills

I got some blue pills I could give them, but it’s not gonna give them the effect they think it will. It might calm them down a little though.

"I know what you're thinking, 'cause right now I'm thinking the same thing.
Actually, I've been thinking it ever since I got here: Why oh why didn't I take the BLUE pill?"
Cypher

According to the FAA, it's a "Cockpit distraction"

The NTSB will hold a two-day hearing about UPS2976 on May 19-20 (a month from now).

“The hearing will be held at the NTSB boardroom in Washington where it will also be livestreamed. The agenda, witness list and other details will be announced in the coming weeks.”

The docket number is DCA26MA024.

I do not intend to be cynical here.

But what will this hearing accomplish?
I though we knew what happened.

I imagine the full story of how things got to the point of failure will be clearer. It’s obvious the engine and pylon came off the airplane but the why is in there somewhere. Hopefully we’ll take heed to whatever recommendations the NTSB makes after this is all said and done.

The what and the how are known. These hearings are for the formal “why “ and possibly some of the “who”, and should be the culmination of the digging and homework of the investigation. The “who” part incorporates the recommendations, and it will be interesting which entities those get directed to.

I really await the formal what, how and why for Air India 171. Much more of a mystery.

I, for one, would like to know why she didn't climb on the remaining 2. That question has really been weighing on me heavily. I'm hoping that comes out in the hearing.

You're making assumptions about them having two engines. I also wondered about that but in speculative retrospect it appears they only had one engine running at the worst possible time. The NTSB doesn't care about speculation, they will dig deep to find the factual evidence. You're just going to have to wait, it's called delayed gratification, something folks nowadays somehow find baffling. I can remember ordering stuff from magazines that would take 6-8 weeks and were C.O.D. My first balsa airplane model was built based on this method of production. It was a glider and it flew, but it didn't fly well. I was probably 10, so my aeronautic knowledge was lacking. I need more experience regarding weight/balance and the construction of flying contraptions, not to mention I'd started riding motorcycles and that seemed way more exciting.

Oh it’s not a mystery. The CA murdered suicided.

It’s painful watching India media trying to trash FADEC, Boeing, the 787, etc.

Anything and anyone but their PIC.
Thank you for sorting it all out. Everyone concerned should've called you immediately. How do you feel about Indian 787 Captains?

I thought the latest NTSB data showed #2 was producing nearly normal power.

Cool story. He’s wondering because it directly affects his career.
