UPS MD-11 crash at SDF

In the left seat I’d hope? Money does make the suck slightly less

Not allowed until I have had time to sufficiently repay him in kind for the dictatorial oppression he imposed upon me in the CRJ at SkyWheezy.

Plus at his seniority in the left seat he'd be lucky if he got an overnight that wasn't Cincinnati.

Yeah. My commute is not intolerable and I've gotten to do some genuinely cool flying and spend more time with my parents between trips than I would have otherwise done. I really would like to go to initial only one more time, though.

You folding yourself up to fit into the flight deck of a guppy is punishment enough.
Thing that is automatic on the ER … on F
Thing that is also automatic on the ER … on C&F
Engine anti-ice … (__) C
Air conditioning panel … set F
Recall … ckd I guess I hit it just right F
Autobrakes … RTO F

Real punishment is folding yourself up on to the second jumpseat. The horror on the United guys face when I told him there was already another cockpit rider, “but don’t worry this one has two jumpseats” was priceless. AUS-SMF would have been hellish for all of us though and luckily there were just enough seats for them in the back.

For a completely hilarious visual…I am 6’5”, and Dad is 6’2” (even in those days he was shrinking). We were folded into both jump seats from PHX to LAX on a Southwest jet that couldn’t manage to cross KONZL at 280 indicated and 17,000’ no matter how hard they tried.

On the walk to the car there was a spirited discussion from the former 737 instructor to the then-regional guy based in LAX who did it without VNAV about how not to do that.

When in doubt the ‘ol 3 to 1 works good and last long time. I use the Regan approach to the guppies VNAV, trust but verify.

As you know, I'm all of 5'10 (and uh "economically" built) and I don't think I would sit in the second 73 jump seat unless it were the *only* way to escape a zombie apocalypse. I salute your familial fortitude, but also wonder how much arthritis this must have caused for your Pops (immediately) and you (eventually).

Guppy VNAV is trash. Every time it says “drag required” it’s a fat lie. Quick way to see if your colleague is paying attention, prompt comes up and they go for a fist full of speed brake instead of doing 3-1 mental math.

Hell I’m 5’9 and I don’t fit. Even after the 🎶 Oh oh oh Ozemmmmmmpic 🎶

The Guppy sucks™ for its pilots, why would Boring care about the freeloaders jumpseaters?!

Boring doesn't really make sense as an insult name in this case- whatever else you can say about the 737, "boring" doesn't really describe all of the MAX crashes or AS1282.

I agree it is twitchy and mostly garbage, but I feel like I've been in scenarios where it wasn't going to make a crossing speed restriction (coincident with hard altitude restriction) without boards. Maybe I just suck though.

You had posters of a Hudson Hornet as a kid?

haha this is probably blasphemy, but for as much as I enjoy cars, classic Americana has never done it for me. They just seem bloated, with weird lines that aren't flattering. I can appreciate them for what they are, but I would never buy one. And another blasphemous statement along similar lines......piston engined warbirds don't really excite me either, with perhaps the only exception being the P-51 and maybe the B-29. I guess my real interest began with the jet engine. Much like my real interest in cars doesn't date to much before the early 1970s (and also generally excludes anything ever built in the USA, save a couple sports cars and trucks). Go ahead and roast me, I know its coming :)

If it makes anyone feel better, I also can only think of maybe single digits of cars built by any manufacturer since 2000 that really interest me. And only American trucks are cool. That is my main exception to the rule above.
