Updating Endorsements

I realize endorsements such as Complex and HP will not expire, however I am busting out a new logbook and going to put my old one, with all my endorsements in it, in a safer place. Now, I am going to need some way of putting those endorsements in my new logbook, correct? Is that something I can just copy those endorsements myself and sign them off now that I am an instructor; or is it something I need to have another instructor do? Are there any limitations saying that I can not copy that endorsement into my new logbook even though I already got the initial endorsement from my past instructor (who has already left the for regionals)?

I see no reason for you to have these in your new logbook.

 Check 61.195(i) Prohibition against self-endorsements.

I wouldn't worry about it. But if you decide to anyway;), I suggest just photocopying them.

Interesting, guess I missed that in my CFI training :p

So you suggest just photocopying them and sticking them in the back of my new logbook?

There's really no need to have them anywhere but the original logbook unless you just want to have a backup photocopy. Since you aren't required to carry logbooks with you anyway, if there was ever a question you could just dig out your old logbook.

The only scenario in which I see you needing them is getting checked out at an FBO. If, for some reason, the FAA ever wanted to see the endorsements, you would have the opportunity to produce the logbooks within a reasonable amount of time. (You don't need these endorsements for a checkride, BTW. See 61.31(k)).

If you're talking about (k)(2), that says "rating limitations", as in (d) Limitations on operating an aircraft (that requires a type rating)..."

The type rating requirement is removed for the checkride, but I don't see that as not needing a required endorsement. Do you?

Paragraph (k)(2) does not pertain to paragraph (d), it pertains to the entire section (61.31), as the language says "The rating limitations of this section do not apply to..." It says nothing in particular about type rating and does not refer to paragraph (d).

So this paragraph says that all endorsements required in 61.31 are not required for a checkride or student pilots. In addition to the clear language, the old FAQ's also indicated the same understanding.

Ah, Ha! So you are thinking, or understanding, or interpreting the word "ratings" to include "required endorsements".

So, how do you reconcile the use of the word "rated" in 61.51(e)(1)(i) "for which the pilot is rated" does NOT include required endorsements?

No, these are rating "limitations". This section places limits on the use of your rating.
...Ah, Ha!...got it! Thank you. I needed that.

These additional training requirements are "limitations" on the use of my "ratings" when acting as PIC.

Man! That took forever for me to get that.

I'm not clear on where you're going with this?
