I'm Junior in high-school, I am currently Looking at Colleges in Alaska. UAF's Professional Piloting program ONLY gives you the ground Instruction. Id like to know, from anyone involved with UAF, what their program is like and how I would go about getting the FAA ratings.

I dont know what UAF is like, but UAA might be a better option because also provide flight training.

However I dont recommend UAA for their piloting program. Their aviation program is fantastic, but the flight ops department isnt so great. I would look at doing the Aviation Management degree, and minor in ATC. If you want to fly I recommend going to Land and Sea aviation on Merrill field. A lot of people I know have gone that route.

The reason im considering UAF is because of their 1 year A&P course... I can get the Associate in Professional Pilot in 2 years and be done in 3 years.. With the Merrill Field I could Balance taking classes at UAA and get my Ratings at Merrill..

Based on the guys I've met who are involved with the maintenance program at UAF, it is top notch. For what that's worth.

The UAA Aviation Technology program I really enjoyed, the flight ops not so much. Here is the website with the degrees and certificates: http://www.uaa.alaska.edu/ctc/programs/degrees/index.cfm

You can get a B.S. in Aviation Technology and an A.A.S or Certificate in A&P.

I was looking at the BS of Aviation Technology and it has 3 emphasis areas... Air Traffic.. Aviation Management...and Professional piloting... So its literally ALL three of these courses in one... Am I correct?

Or you choose one emphasis area and then you go more in-depth with that area?
