United/JetBlue Rumor Mill

I agree, super douchey comment, even if just joking (wrong audience).

Reminds me of a time we took a jumpseater on a transcon to connect with his NY base (and his EU redeye later that evening). Little way into the flight, we are chatting, and the guy says he's year one at widget and on the 330. CA, my CA, visibly takes great offense to this, and begins his excuse matrix of how he tried to get hired there for years but they weren't hiring. JS guy (and me) were confused when he mentioned he had been trying since 2017/2018. Some of the greatest years of hiring over there. Huh? Guy I was flying with was a nice enough dude, but he couldn't help himself from busting this JS'ers balls all the way to NY. It was awkward, and not exactly the impression I felt like we should be giving.

Whenever I hear someone say they wish they weren’t at XYZ or acquired by XYZ. I just let them know that right now, somewhere, there is a person that sees XYZ as a dream gig. That usually stops the bish fest, usually….

Based on recent comments, I think you can set your watch at this time. They'll be announcing this sometime in the next 2.5 years.

---Leskinen responded by saying “I think it’s a unique environment where M&A is possible, we’ll see how that plays out, but I do think that this industry would benefit from some.”---

This has to be there plan all along. Just getting the chairs in position at the point and will slide it in on the tail end of this admin. I dont think any other admin would allow it to happen.

nice a blogger citing another blogger making a guess on one line during an interview
The quote is accurate though no? This may be the only admin dumb enough to allow this to happen, thus "unique M and A". Everything has been pointing and hinting in that direction based on this quote and many more.

idk, same article author claims pw777 are retiring and in the very next quote it says they will be back in 27 when they find engine parts?

I vote travel blogger and credit card mile hacker as first careers to be replaced by AI. They’re the only job thats already worse than ChatGPT in comprehension

I, and every one of the pilots I work with, read that same article.

I am highly skeptical of those conclusions.

I am so junior that a merger or acquisition really wouldn’t make my life appreciably worse in terms of seniority. It might even help a little bit. But I know for a lot of people I work with, and SLI would be pretty painful. And so I wonder why there are hopes for something so damaging.

You would be driving to work (~3-5 years after the announcement) and that would be life changing.

Me too. Again.

I take this article with the same grain of salt as EVERY so-called article that has mentioned this topic.

I selfishly want any result that would allow me to drive to work in LA.

That’s a very fair point that I hadn’t considered.

Maybe in a few years you’re PA may start with “ Welcome aboard Alaskan Airways…”

Don’t worry, we aren’t all like you see in that lav discussion promise.

I am worried about that merger potential selfishly for my own seniority, but would welcome any pilots that now have a forced transcon commute.

Kirby has been very vocal about not wanting to merge with anyone due to organic internal growth being more efficient for the company. I’m wondering if Boeing/Airbus dragging their feet on delivering airplanes is swaying his opinion to at least consider a merger.

That's been the pairing that's made the most sense for the last 15+ years - and I would welcome the mashup - except for the part where I have to learn how to fly the 737. (which is why I'm worried that it won't happen)

But, I'd still go back to school in a hot second and sit in that cramped office if I could drive to work again.

I'd even be happy to eat that weird-ass microwaved cheddar cheeseburger that you have on every leg till I retire.

Mmm the Tillamook Cheeseburger. Comes out just like it goes in.

Don’t forget cartoned water, sometimes with pulp 🙂

And First Class transcon DH's and picking up flying on top of RSV guarantee.

Those two things would also be life changers for me since I'm a permanent RSV on purpose bidder.

But who knows what's gonna happen.

This has sort of been my take on it - I don't think UA really wants to consider this kind of M&A activity since it would be disruptive to a lot of things. But the point you make about Boeing is a good one, and another one might be that acquiring B6 would be a defensive move to prevent someone else doing it.

Like I said, I'm so junior it probably won't matter one way or another, but the slight possibility of driving to an IAD base would certainly be worth considering.
