United hiring DSCs

Well-met in the Ka-tet
Just saw this posted...many people hired as dispatch support coordinators move into regular dispatch positions after working as a DSC for a year or so (including at least two members of this board.) I think this posting is to replace some people who got hired for the latest dispatcher class starting next year. Anyhow, good luck to all who apply! May the force be with you.

Oooo I see this doesn't require a license. Does swa of American have a similar position? I'll throw my name into the pile.

It doesn't require a license, but most people hired into the position in recent years do have a license and dispatch experience. This being said, it never hurts to apply. If you don't ask, the answer is always no.

I have no idea if AA or WN have similar positions although I know some people have gone into dispatch at WN after initially being hired as crew schedulers.

From personal experience, I applied for a similar job at Continental during the merge with United and was just about to start Dispatch school and I never heard anything. Moral of the story is while they say you don't need one, unless you are pilot or have a ton aviation experience they probably won't hire you. Still never hurts to apply though.

At some point, sooner rather than later you will have to drop the money for a license. Do it now, get it over with, find a job and have a career you love.

Since money is an issue, just get a 0% credit card. You can make payments over about 15 months so to not foot the bill all at once, and not pay a dime of interest. That's what I did.

That is a great option. From what I understand a student loan may be used for a dispatch school as well. Or do what I did and go all in and sell your house since the job will probably require a move anyway ;) (definitely do not recommend to everyone) I got pretty lucky though and got a job offer two days after passing the oral and practical.

SWA/ AA doesn't have a similar position. This position is designated to United government contract flying.

Hate to beat the dead horse here but get the money for the license. Way better chance at making progress.

While it's not completely on topic, this could be an option for some: Apply/get hired for a flight coordinator position with ARINC Direct and they'll pay to send you to Sheffield to get your dispatch. You'll only owe them a year and I think they prorate the cost if you leave prior to that. You won't be actively dispatching, but will definitely learn a lot about the nas that could prove beneficial down the road.

That's not a regional right? I'm not sure I'm 2willing to commit a year. Do I have to sign a contract? Sounds sketch.

I knew multiple people that split well within a year of Arinc paying for their license, so unless something has changed contractually there is no retainer on an individual after receiving their license. Totally agree that it's great place to start. Annapolis is a great city and the pay is very reasonable as well.

Arinc Direct who is now owned by Rockwell Collins provides domestic, international, and flight following as well as many other services to part 91/135 operators. So, no it is not a regional. If you are serious about this career you HAVE to be willing to commit your time, or else you're going to have a pretty big disadvantage to the guy/gal who put time and hard work in while paying their dues. As previously mentioned, I have not heard or ever saw anyone signing a contract, Things may have changed. Oh, and it's not Sketch,it's pretty straight forward.

I'm just a retired 30 yr ATL air traffic controller and a lurker on this part of the site, however after reading the questions and responses from this member it appears he'd like to be hired without experience, training, schooling and if at all possible not to have to move.

That's feasible right guys?

Put in the time, effort and spend the money on training. It'll be worth it in the end. These folks are giving you excellent advice.

Nothing is easy and nothing is free.

It's very clear after that last post. 100% Troll. I would suggest everyone stop posting replies to the person. They'll get annoyed from people not feeding into the BS posts and leave.
