United hiring "DSC"....

Might be a bit late to apply...they are already doing interviews. Never hurts to apply of course.
That's interesting because they posted the position on Feb 12. Maybe they aren't satisfied with the current applicant pool from the first posting. Or maybe they need more applicants.

That pretty much sums up the situation.

Starting is mid 40's depending on experience and negotiations.

It kindly looks like this is more along the lines of "Flight Operation Engineering".
I wonder where in the career progression timeline does this job fail into. In other words would this be something that would lead to being a dispatcher with United or would this be something you would go into after being a dispatcher in United, if so what would come after this?

Quite a few DSC's upgrade to dispatch every class.

The position is a lot more of database management for dispatch and you are essentially an assistant dispatcher for the S-UA group. Your in charge of all Notams that come in and flight follow the entire airline.

What is average rent and how long is commute from a cheaper area

It just depends what kind of place you're looking for and how far out you're willing to go. People commute in anywhere from walking distance to an hour plus drive in. A lot of people seem to like living in Indiana. I personally like having a shorter drive, although I wouldn't personally want to live in the city itself either (and I do not.)

Is anything less than 700 month within 15 minutes of headquarters

HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA....um, I mean no.

If I'm not mistaken its probably like NYC, expensive in the city and some surrounding areas, cheaper the further out you go. Got to find were the working class lives and you'll find cheap-ish apartments. I mean its a major city so its not going to be cheap. Everyone's cheap is different I'd just research the prices and make an assumption from that.

Well, not sure about the shift hours at the Big U, but Chicago has a pretty robust pubic transportation system. Union Station and Ogalvie (ummm, did I get that right?) Are a 5 minute walk to the Big Willie, and you can probably find apartments near enough to those lines for a reasonable price. I wouldn't live in the city to save my live, but everyone is different and you might love it. Plenty of people living on far less out there.

700 will get you a small studio at best. Nothing 1 bed or greater for under 700 in the downtown area. Not sure about further out (10+) miles

Whut up y'all!

I got hired at UAL for the DSC position. Could not have ever, eeever done it with out my buddies here and the ADF. Really excited, and thankful for all their help. Everyone there was super cool and made me feel so welcome.

Chicago is actually Algonquian and it means "frozen tissue that becomes gangrenous and falls off" JK. :) Actually I LOVE the city, and my wife's sister lives there so the move is one we are really looking forward to.
