The biggest casualty, after the victims and the loss felt, of a shooting like this is possibly the persistent and abject stupid. It's as though the murderer, while picking up his weapon of choice, tips the Sherwin Williams bucket and covers the world with stupid.

Oh yeah, this thread was about UAL's bonus program, so wasn't the lottery some hair brained idea back in the halcyon days of Bethune at Continental?

What gets me is that some guy (or gal) in the executive suite put this together and said "What a great idea!" And they he (she) presented it to the management team and they all collectively said "What a great idea!" Totally out of touch with the needs and desires of their employees. This is what happens when the executive suite becomes a revolving door of MBA types who have never had a thing to do with putting out the product, and instead just push figures around a spreadsheet.

I’m not so sure. I’m curious if this was even run by the HR Compensation people, much less the CxO team/Board. It really wouldn’t surprise me if this was a political move to justify firing the exec that came up with this idiotic idea.
