United Flight 93 on A&E

As the pax was shuffling through his wallet he took his ID out and slapped it on the counter and said "you know this is really overkill Im in your computer aren't I! I was so upset and just disappointed that someone would really ask this. Oh well, thats the "general public" for you.

Haven't we had to do that anyway since the first Gulf War? I honestly don't know for sure but I'm pretty sure we've had to show ID since the early 90s!

Or when I would screen the flight I would walk up and down the line reminding pax to take off shoes, jackets, laptops out of bags, etc, and then would always hear sighing, and whining on "why do we have to do this." It would make me so upset I just wanted to yell at people and ask them "do you remember what happened 5 years ago?!"

Well, here I disagree with you. Shoes? Nothing to do with September 11, and x-rays don't detect explosives. That's all about Richard Reid and it's a damn good thing he didn't shove those explosives up his butt or good Lord, we'd all be getting proctological exams. Same thing with the laptops.

Plus, all of this assumes that the people we're fighting against are so damn stupid they'll use exactly the same method to attack us. They won't. September 11 was a one time event, and al Qaeda is smart and knows it.

True on the shoes...but...dont complain to me in the security line. The time a pax takes to ask "do we have to...", "why do I..." takes up time. If you are really in a hurry to get through security and on to your flight just do it and dont hold up the line. My philosophy, just do what the dang TSA sign says "IN, OUT, OFF" meaning metal object in bin, laptops out of case, shoes off. That simple. Dont argue with airline agent or TSA screener.

Now I dont necessarily agree with the shoe screening thing, but I've got my procedures to notify pax of current TSA regulations, and TSA has their procedures on "shoe/laptop inspection". If you just follow the rules it wont be a big hassle. Writing a letter to TSA, or state representative is the place to voice opinions/concerns not in the security line.

I used to be highly critical of the TSA but soon realized that the average passenger comes to the airport unprepared for screening, wastes inordinate amounts of time and doesn't arrive with a "plan".

I'll watch people pull out keys, cell phones, pda's, pocket change, take off a large buckled belt, eyeglasses, etc.

Then they set the detector off, pull out a money clip from their pocket, nail clippers, a big 'New Jersey' metal medallion and go back thru the scanner again.

Aye. Throw all that crap in your carry-on while in line, screen swiftly, and re-dress for the 'fashion show' they're planning for when they're waiting for their flight.

I love being in line, doing my routine, keys, cell, wallet (minus ID), etc in the carry-on, having people looking funny at me like what's he doing, and then sit for 5 minutes getting their ducks in a row while at the x-ray machine. I'll walk right around them and smile at 'em as I go in front of them. Then I laugh as I'm drinking my coffee (how do y'all stay awake all day;) ) and reading the newspaper as they keep setting the buzzer off.

I read in different websites that the passangers never made it to the cockpit.

Also, I am more for the idea that the F-16s shot the 757 down than the terrorists themselves flew it into the ground. They had the clearance from the president, they were 15 min away from DC, the secret service said to keep the aircraft away from DC at ALL costs, I think they went ahead and did it.

Gold Star for Brian...

No one can know for sure how they tried to get into the cockpit, and whether or not they did, and whether or not there was just one or more hijackers to ward off the pax trying to get in. That was all speculation.

The movie producers did add a subtle touch to cause one to think that maybe it was shot down after the plane was declared down/crashed and they showed the military guys in the bunker giving each other "those looks" that would say "the deed was done."

But again, all speculation ... as I said earlier what really got me was the factual stuff ... realizing there were family members in a plane and on the ground who wouldn't see each other again, and they lived awhile knowing that.

And come on guys ... this was to be a post just asking if anyone saw the movie and what they thought ... not about airport security, reliving 9/11, etc.

Does that remind anyone else of the Simpsons "Poochy" episode where Homer says, "You'll know he's evil because he has shifty eyes!"

Actually, i supposedly have a "missing book" that i for sure returned, but they lost it. They told me i had to pay 110 bucks for the book (and no, dont remember the name, some text sort of book) so they can buy a new one. No way in hells am i going to pay 110 bucks for something i didnt lose. So no more library card for me!
You know, technically the library can send your debt to a collection agency and they can ding your credit (or in this case, parents credit). But only poor cities do that, and considering how many books libraries loose to people with falsified documents, I doubt they care.

All of this reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Agent Bookman is after Jerry for the book he hadn't returned since high school. Kramer sleeps with the librarian ... George really lost the book when he was given wedgies ... and the book his with their homeless gym teacher still muttering "Can't Stand Ya!"

Ah ... a classic!

Hey, no worries, man. I go along to get along, but I always do wonder, what the hell is this for as I'm going through the kabuki theater. Don't take it as me being the bunghole who yells at you, but more along the lines of thinking this is stupid.

Actually, there was an article in the Wall Street Journal about just that recently. I think that San Diego went after someone who had like $200 in library fines.

That's what's made me pay my parking tickets. I've historically blown them off, but then when I read about how they refer those to collection agencies now, I'm like, I am not letting my credit get ruined for a $50 ticket.

The official news is that the nearest F-16s were 150miles away from the white house at the time of the crash. It was 28 minutes after the crash at shanksville that the AF was ordered to shoot down any planes coming in close contact.

And your reliable source for all this knowledge is?

National Enquirer can't be one of them either.

Doug,

I tried doing all the "sanatizing" stuff but the steel plate in my head kept setting off the metal detector. I eventually got my Delta medical insurance to pay for a kevlar replacement and wrote of the deductible as a necessar business expense!

When Mz B travels, I just slow to about 3 mph, drop her off at the front of the terminal and come back when she calls me on her cell phone from in front of the same terminal.

Are I considerate or what?

Uhhh, my mom has written for the National Enquirer and it's a lot more fact than fiction, actually. It's sensationalism, but it's not lies. Weekly World News would make a more valid comparison.

The Enquirer has broken a lot of big Hollywood stories... seriously.

Although I found this hard to believe, I recently learned that it is the truth. Prime example; the OJ Simpson trial. There was no news media more spot on with reporting the investigation and bringing out new (and legitmate at that) facts than the Enquirer. I'm not going to claim that I read it for pleasure or anything, but simply blowing it off as complete B.S. is, well, B.S.

Do you really believe that? They knew the aircraft was in the air and it was hijacked, the pilots had the go ahead to engage, they were NOT far from the 757, what makes you think they couldn't have shot it down?

If you wanna look the other way and say it was how the government said it was, go ahead. I'm not going for it.

Different bits from different websites. Why, you think the ANG F-16s had nothing to do with the aircraft coming down? I wonder why the government won't release the flight recorder data when it's not even something that secret, unless that is they did indeed shoot it down and want to hide something.
