United Exits Ch. 11

Because they're going to post $10-15 Billion in net profit 1Q '06.

Sure they will. But how much of that is operating profit, and how much is a one time extraordinary event that comes from their bankruptcy restructuring?

I think there is some validity to the rumor that they will merge with Continental. Some validity, not a massive amount though. I'd actually not want to see that happen, but indicators are pointing in that direction.

I know..I know no validty in airline mergers rumors until you see or hear bout it in major national publications.

But my ears are to the streets and I haven't heard the normal merger talk about United/Continental!

So Matt..if indicators are pointing in that direction..United/Continental. In solely your opinion any truth/indicators to the Delta/NWA merger rumors?

Wish I could take credit for it, but it's one of Cuba Gooding Jr's lines from Jerry McGuire! :)
So it is!

I forgot that line.

I'm starting to forget a lot of things lately. Hello? Did you say something?

So, you're telling me that United is going to have a bigger profit than Exxon Mobil just had this quarter of $10.7 Billion?? The same Exxon Mobil profit that is the current record holder for profit for any US company ever. You're out of your mind. Profit of that magnitude requires sales in one quarter of almost $100 Billion dollars. Ain't gonna happen.

Operating profit is different from net profit.

If you want to take the bet, it's all yours.

I'm going to have to remember this thread in April...

Yes, $10.7 Billion was EOM's net profit. I still say UAUA isn't going to have a net profit anywhere near $10Billion this coming April.

I think you're either on something, or you have a few wires crossed.

And before you ask, no I won't put a Benjamin on it.

Why not? I'm clearly insane and/or drunk?

Why is it so hard to get someone to bite on this? It's an easy C note for me!

United will post what it wants to post. Didn't they lose "$17 billion" in the 4Q 2005? It was all one time charges, writeoffs, etc. They didn't really lose $17,000,000,000. Their entire net worth is around $2.5-$3.0 billion (it's what they used as leverage to get loans).

If this is what you're getting at, it's simply a numbers game. It doesn't mean a thing.
