What if anything does anyone know about this position and the interview for it?

I have been extended the opportunity to interview next week in Chicago. Since I know I wouldn't be dispatching, I wonder if you think it would be a good move. We all know we strive to work for a major.

You also help chase times and make sure all is well in unimatic/foms

A lot of people do upgrade from that position so I have heard.

That's true...

It's true...I did interview once for that position, and you do get a first shot at UAL dispatch from that position. However, I believe they are now using SHARES, since for all practical purposes its CAL using the UAL name now.

I think there is a fair amount of route building involved...it's not all boring administrative work.

The entry Exam that I took @ a year ago was very thorough, I was given two hours and it took me just about every minute of it to get it completed. About 10-15 questions straight out of the ATP Book, and a lot of reading charts and answering questions about Enroute, Approach and the AFD (Airport Facility Directory). I was also asked to buid a route (transcon). In my humble opinion it was one of the more complete Exams that I have taken and I have had my share at different interviews, so be prepared and study for it. The actual interview was scenario based questions, I would say @ 8 questions, I don't remember exact details of them, but I do recall being asked about what to do if the aircraft acars is inop and what to do about getting the on and in times. Answer: call Operations, reach the crew, wait for the next outbound flight and ping the acars again to see if the problem was resolved and you get good data. Again, they asked " tell me about a time questions and what did you learn or improve afterwards ''...I was asked how to obtain Notam data and check if a Notam is still valid and what sources in obtaining info. Call OKcity Notam office, check faa pilot web site, etc. The job is 5 on 2 off, it can be monotonous, but there is a lot to learn within the department, and although not a guaranteed interview to Dispatch, you will be part of United and unless you really mess things up, have a good chance of being interviewed down the road...I do agree with what was mentioned prior, it may be a while since everyone at this dept. has their license and I think Mgmnt. only will let one or two candidates go at a time (based on seniority). Best of Luck to all that apply and Interview! Cheers! Mexipilot:)
