United AeroCrew recap

@Aero Crew Solutions please feel free to extrapolate further.

Big take always I saw from the free United presentation was this:

If you're applying to Delta or United, don't waste you money further, until you have a degree.
Of those hired this year, 98.3% had degrees. (Delta requires a degree, while United only prefers it)

I wouldn't waste your money on a subscription based application until you fall in that 98.3%.
But hey, be your bad self and hope to be that 1.7%.

The average new hire had 5000+ TT. Of that 1000+ as PIC. The graph didn't break it down further.

53% of new hires were veterans (The slide said vets, but Bill said aviators). Someone asked the question about whether a non aviator was counted in that, but I didn't see the answer. Perhaps someone can expand.

They're hiring like gangbusters. The figures he mentioned: 11,400 over the next 20 years. That's a lot ladies and gents.

Be patient, your time will come.

There were a few locals I knew who I saw in the chat window. If they would like to expand on what I typed, please do.

Thanks again for putting the job fair on.

I posted this in the nearby thread, so I'll just quote from there

One more thing - UAL doesn't count the rotary wing time
Those are from the q&a that followed
View attachment 40962 Some good United stuff from today's Q&A by United recruitment and Bill Kennedy

- many applicants are really good at updating their flight times in AirlineApps but they miss updating their FAA First Class Medical and/or their Passport, once they renew them

- Regarding "common errors" to avoid in AirlineApps: 1) Always be truthful including failed checkrides, training difficulties, GPA, etc. 2) Update medical, passport, ATP and all documents 3) Double check for spelling and grammatical errors 4) This is our first impression of you so SHINE - make it neat, clean and complete.

- Hogan: Don't be distracted, take it for you, do not answer questions as if you believe United would want them answered. Be consistent and answers should come from your first inclination.

- Hiring projections for 2018 are currently between 500-700. Construction of our FTC should be complete by June 2018.

- United will be hosting our own career fairs in 2018 and more information will follow in the coming months. We will attend various organization events as a corporation and continue our sponsorships; however, we will not be participating in the pilot career fair portion.

- Regarding LORs, 4-5 letters of recommendation are sufficient. LORs may come from internal and external referrals. We are looking for quality and character references vs a specific number.

- Chief Pilot meet-and-greets 'may' be beneficial and are a way to gain professional development, but it does not guarantee an interview or being placed higher in the process.

- ALL applicants are scored against the same algorithm. It doesn't matter what your background is, what your education is, etc.

- In the Addendum section of the application, there is a question that asks if you have ever paid a fine for a conviction on your record. Do traffic violation fines apply to this question? - NO

- We recommend update your application monthly (particularly if you are actively flying and building your hours).

- A Masters degree makes an applicant more competitive in the process. (Also verbally stated that degree doesn't have to be from brick and mortar and major doesn't matter)

- We view heavy time and oversees flying as we would view 121 flying in the US. The time adds to AirlineApps and your competitiveness for our process.

- here are the competitive minimums. These are the averages for the 502 pilots we hired in 2016:
Average Total Flight Time = 5,583
Average PIC Time = 2,984
Average Turbine Time = 4,816

- Part 121 time does not get scored any higher than Part 135

- the algorithm doesn't give any points for type ratings.

- We will post and widely communicate in 2018 communication regarding our hosted career expos. We plan to have a variety of different career expos over the next few years targeting various organizations and pilots in the flying community.

@Nark I am glad you enjoyed the virtual job fair. If anyone wants to watch the United webinar, the job fair website will remain active for the next 7 days. You can visit booths, download PDFs and watch the webinars again and again. aerocrewsolutions.vfairs.com

Our next event will be on Friday, January 12th. Details will be posted mid December. Good luck to everyone!

Then why in the world dont they say this on airlineapps?!

I can't remember if it was in the presentation or the chat, but I thought I understood that UA was going to move to an in-house career fair strategy. They will continue to support the organizations, (WIA, NGPA, etc..) but not participate in the career fairs.

You are correct. As soon as the new Denver training center is finished, you can expect United to host multiple open houses throughout the year. Details should come out 1Q 2018.

Last item on the quoted list from the chat in the second post

There I was trying to be helpful and posting this stuff and the exact same people who put "attention to the detail" on their resumes just go and blatantly ignore it )))))))

Because it's a boilerplate. If SouthernJets wants certain changes, but no one else does, well, majority rules my friend! :)

The addendums are not boilerplate. It's where each airline asks for specific information. And if they want specific information they should be... specific about it.

It's the same issue that plagues any application, in aviation or not. The person writing the question knows what they mean so they assume the person reading the question will too.

I mean in RE: to the main application.
