United 2025

Why
Class start dates are offset by 6 weeks, but yes we are running a new class every 6 weeks for a number of classing until the summer.
Why is United hiring so many dispatchers? Are people leaving for another major or retiring? Is United increasing their fleet?

It's basically correct, although to clarify the 5-2-5-5 schedule, one day of the 5 day block off is actually a non dispatch desk work day, counts toward your 1880 hours, that you have to either fill with a requirement (things like Recurrent, annual line check, annual jump seat observation and a few others), or cover with a PTO. You get 10 PTO's annually, with the chance to earn additional ones by working on holidays. If you run out of ways to cover, you're working on that day.

Additionally, as bid relief don't expect to have a 5-2-5-5 schedule.

It's actually 5-2-5-2-1-2...but you can move the 1 around to any other day you have off.
So unless you move that 1 day around or use one of your gifted PTOs you never have more than 2 days off at a time? And they always plop that 1 extra right in the middle of your block of 5 off unless you move it yourself?

These can be moved manually after vacation is awarded prior to the calendar year. Can be fully covered with additional PTOs by working holidays or a MID line. In negotiations to (hopefully) make them a thing of the past.

I wish you all the best for negotiations. I had heard UA was possibly trying to shave off a day but I thought that meant making it more like a 5/3, 5/5 or something similar. Did not know about this other extra day as well. At both AA and DL they work no more than 4-5 days a week with no less than 3-4 days off each week. Either 4/4, 5/4 or 4/4, 4/3. And even though AA is scheduled 9 hours we only work 8 each shift because we allow for a 1 hour turnover time between shifts. So you’re relieved an hour early (but can stay longer if needed which is rare), and the next shift gets relieved an hour early as well, etc. Holidays are reserved for either extra holiday pay (whether you work or not you get paid. 9 hours if you’re off, 13 hrs if you work on top of your regular 9 so really 22) or you can substitute holiday pay for our version of savings used to pay for even more time off somewhere or trades. I hope UA gets something similar and amazing schedules. You all deserve it.
