Union steward

If I volunteer to be a Union
steward for my airline would that be a positive or
negative thing in consideration for a dispatch position at a major. Also what carries more weight on a resume being a steward or supervisor

Probably neither. Being a union steward isn't all that attractive to prospective employers as they generally don't 'like' the unions. Being a supervisor probably not gonna help you a whole lot unless you're applying for another supervisor position.

I wouldn't volunteer the information, but it probably won't come up in your interview - I think it's illegal for them to ask. I was the steward at my previous airline and I never mentioned it at all when I was interviewed at my current carrier - it seemed to have no impact on the hiring process pro or con.

If you want to work for AA, being a steward for your TWU local can be a big help. There are a few dispatchers recently hired on by AA that had strong union connections by being shop stewards. It all depends on the airline you are applying to. At AA, the union has a say in who gets hired so being a shop steward can be a benefit to you.

DL loves people with management experience. Out of the last 25 hired only 2 were line dispatchers with no management experience.

Yeah.....If you ever belong to the above union....be aware the benefits accrue mainly to shop stewards and section chairs..........the rank and file membership ? Not so much

Ahhhhh......If your management experience is as a TWU lackey......Not at good idea to mention that either at the Delta or United interview. Both are PAFCA and take a dim view of those who parade their TWU roots. A word to the wise.......
