Uniforms

LOL.
Pinnacle is such a uniform guy, rallying around the hat and everything else after spending a hundred grand to buy a job.
It seems to me the only reason he wanted to be a pilot was to wear a uniform. Enjoy your hat pal as you slink around Atlanta.
I'm tired of these blowhard douce bags we have to work amongst.

A hundred grand? I spent less total dollars from pvt through GIA than most pilots spend before even getting their CFI nowadays, probably including yourself.

You can PM me and meet in Atlanta to discuss this issue. One thing I can't stand is hypocrites and a Gulfstreamer telling people how to wear their uniform just kills me. For the record, I worked my ass of to get where I am, and these stupid arguments of how to wear a uniform represent the worst side of this weird obsession some of our fellow aviators have with power and image.
(edit)

Other than those few random occurances, I do make sure my shirts are starched, ironed and lookin smooth pimpin...:D
I used to carry starch in my overnight bag. Then I got stopped going through security at an overnight. Apparently the starch spray cans are 2 oz. too big. I was given thorough, extra screening, and interrogated about why I was carrying so much starch. In uniform. It was retarded. The flight left 15 minutes late because of this. The rest of the crew could not figure out what happened to me.:banghead:

I'm new to the forum. New to the aviation world as a pilot. I'm still working on getting my CFI. I have no union background anywhere I've worked previously. I just read these forums to gain information and see what's going on in the airline, freight and charter worlds and try to figure out where I'll fit in sometime down the road. I haven't been reading long enough to figure out who all the different people posting work for but I've noticed a trend that the most mud slinging seems to go on in the Airline Pilots forum. I may have missed previous threads but I don't remember reading any of the guys in the charter or freight forums tearing each other down or insulting each other's companies. You guys paint a picture of the airline world as a plce where low blows and insults are the norm. Again I don't know any of the history that causes this but from a quality of life standpoint Freight or Charter seems like the way to go if you want to enjoy your work AND the people you work with. That's the impression I get from reading everyone's posts in the last couple months. Hope to work with some of you guys in here someday. Take it easy guys.

Who's the jerk here?

Um.....you! I just made a post in this thread that was nothing even remotely contentious. You started the "poo slinging."

Throwing around your union connections like it was currency. Giving advice to students even though your advice is to sell out and pay for a job instead of working your way up as an instructor for a couple of years.

I did flight instruct. You don't know as much about me as you think you do.

Let me guess, did your old man pay your bills at Gulfstream?

Nope. Nothing wrong with that, though, for the guys that do. You have a problem with parents that want to help their kids get started in their careers?

Ever have a job before your Gulfstream string as an FO? Hell, did you ever have responsibility before you paid for your training? Did you ever have a job?

Yes, I had several jobs before CFIing and GIA. My work history isn't important, though. Suffice it to say that I've worked since junior high nonstop.

So #### you #######.
I'd say you are the creep of week.

And a good night to you too, sir.

Hi Speed Pilot --

Low blows are not the norm. It's just with the anonymity of the internet, people tend to display a little more "bravado" than they would in person, which isn't representative of the real world.

Some newer users don't understand that we're trying to be a little different around here than you see on other aviation websites. A little more informative, a little more casual.

It flares up from time to time when people get their egos scratched a little, primarily because of the high incidence of the "Type A" personalities in the aviation profession.

I figure it's like this. There are PLENTY of places on the aviation internet to *argue* about why carrier-a is better than carrier-b, but here, I like to think that we mostly *discuss* it rather than break out the nukes and play aviation-geek global thermonuclear wear.

Thanks Doug,

I get the Type A personality thing. I think Confidence is a job requirement. I understand the airline industry is going through some tough times. I work on the ramp and get to see lots of people come and go and stress about their futures. I really like the atmosphere here. The Airline Pilot threds seem to get off topic and turn into slugfests the fastest on this board. Again the state of the industry and stress must be playing into that a little. Either that or it's a "big brother, little brother, You broke my GI Joe and I'm still pissed" kinda thing.

...the horror man, the horror!

Im not waking up 20 minutes earlier on a Reduced Rest to iron my shirt, sorry. I get to the Hotel, hang it up, and goto sleep. No need to lose valuable sleep unless my shirt looks like it was balled up on the floor all night. Hell I wear my blazer and you can't even see it. I am all for looking sharp but there are times when other things are more important. It also seems like its just this board where people are so anal about this. I wear my hat, blazer, shirt, pants, and tie proudly. As great and wholly as we are I don't think there are really people out there judging us on how perfectly ironed our shirts are. People aren't staring at you judging you. If they are they can kiss my arse!

I ironed my uniform shirts when they were just out of the dryer from doing laundry. I used a good amount of starch, especially on the collar & cuffs.

I do admit though, that I would usually wear the shirt for 2 days. Especially in winter, when it's cold and (at Eagle) would probably have another shirt on under it and a sweater on over it (boarding an ATR with both AFT doors open in MQT in January is bleeping COLD!). How's a shirt going to get dirty when it's neither touching my skin nor exposed to the air! In the summer, it would depend on the day. But I'd still often do 2 days in 1 shirt.

:yeahthat: I do the same thing, Amber. Sometimes I'll even iron them AGAIN at the hotel before working a flight if they got wrinkled in the luggage. I guess I'm a perfectionist in some ways! ;)

I look great in uniform in case you were wondering.

and yes, I iron and starch because its the right thing to do
