UNIFORMS????

Re: NEW UNIFORM POLICY

Wouldn't it be great if more companies started doing this. Taco Bell could make you wear a uniform before you order the #2 with fire sauce. Or Volkswagen could make you wear a VW shirt before you'd be allowed to buy a TDI Golf. "Oh, you don't want to wear the Taco Bell Shirt? No 7 layer for you!"

Re: NEW UNIFORM POLICY

BIZACTLY. You're paying me? I'll wear what you want. I'm paying you? I'm wearing what *I* want.

I go to Sierra, and the students wear uniforms. I remember when I first started I thought it was neat to be in a pilot uniform, but that all changed the first time I went on an XC and hopped out of a 1978 Cessna POS and walked into the FBO wearing a pilot uniform. You have no idea how humilliating that is. Most of us wear sweaters or jackets to cover our uniforms when we have to get out of the plane away from home. I could surely do without the uniform.

the students themselves have to wear uniforms? that's ridiculous!!! I can completely understand the instructors wearing uniforms as they represent the company.. but the student represents the client and shouldn't be told to wear any type of uniform (per se) or told what to wear at all... The client is paying you for services rendered...stating business casual wear seems like a ok idea but shouldn't be "required". They must want to lose some $$...

Come down to Skymates in GKY where student sport flip-flops, cargo shorts and a t-shirt.Get a backpack full of redbull and just fly!!

geez, why is everyone making such a big deal of this...we are suppose to wear a white shirt and brown pants, not a uniform...the TSA wants everyone to look the same so they can spot people who look out of place. They are doing this at all large flight schools now. Yea, its stupid just like all TSA ideas but it isn't the end of the world.

You have to wear a white ATP polo shirt if you go to ATP, why isn't everyone freaking out about that? Oh my god, not a white polo!

Is it just me or does that sound really Orwellian?

To my thinking, "out of place" is anyone who isn't actually an airline pilot, dressing like one.

I wouldn't have ANY problem instructing at a flight school that requires its instructors and students to wear uniforms. In fact, I thinks it's cool. It conveys an air of professionalism. I suppose it's a personality thing though. I can certainly appreciate that there are many folks who wouldm't want to wear a uniform. Hey, it takes all kinds, right?

As far as I know...it can be khaki pants or shorts. I believe they just don't want you too look like a slob. Jeans and a tee shirt aren't exactly the most professional image you want to be conveying to the public.

Therefore, I don't see a problem with instructors wearing the aviator shirts, but as an Ari student I would rather wear khaki's and a polo. I guess...if you're going to make me wear a uniform make me wear everything, the shirt, the tie, the shoulder boards, the shoes...

Basically, it's personal preference.

Speaking of personal preference. I was on a non-rev flight from Ithaca, NY to LGA observing a Colgan line and on a B1900 from LGA to PVD there was a 22 year old college student, also non-revving...and he...was wearing a pilot uniform that used to be his dad's. He said it would be cool...I just shook my head. And by this iniform I only mean the black shoes, pants, tie, white shirt with boards....no hat or jacket. He was a nerd.

Wow, I used to wear my dad's flight suit on halloween. But I would never think of non-reving in his uniform. Plus I'm sure my dad would say that I looked like a loser :
