Okay, I just noticed in one of RPM's pics that both student and instructor in one of the pics are wearing "aviator" shirts, and the instructor is wearing epaulet sleeves with two stripes on them. All I have to say to this is:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone please tell me these people were just being dorky and that Ari-Ben really doesn't require its customers to wear uniforms.

No. You saw right. Only their instructors need to wear uniforms with the epaulettes. More professional anyway. Students must wear khaki pants and a collared shirt (polo, etc).

The EFT (Euopean Flight Training) students have to wear black pants and the shirts. It's to seperate the foriegners from the nationals.

Sorry for the bad news. This is how all flight schools should be.

Yeah...only instructors and the EFT guys have to wear the "Aviator" shirts.

I don't wear em, I just wear decent regular clothes.

As dorky as it might seem, the uniforms/epaulettes do serve a purpose. It mainly helps distinguish between who is at what level of their training. If everyone was in civi's, no one would be able to tell who was an instructor and who was a student.

Oh and I can't tell you how many discounted lunches I have gotten, for working "security" at the mall!!

Sure, the CFI's should where uniforms, but who cares what level of training the students are at with the epaulettes? That isn't pertinent information. Set guidelines for clothing, but there is no reason for everyone to wear the monkey suit.

For the last time, the students don't wear uniforms or epaulets. Once you're an instructor at Aviator, you have to wear the white shirt with 2-stripe epaulets.

I suppose you have a point. I would guess the rational behind the dress code is the same as any other dress code at any private school... take the emphasis off the fashion. Although, I will say that some of us look mighty sexy in our get-up!!

Oh and the discounts (cuz we look like security guards) we can get at the mall are GREAT!!!

I go to Sierra, and the students wear uniforms. I remember when I first started I thought it was neat to be in a pilot uniform, but that all changed the first time I went on an XC and hopped out of a 1978 Cessna POS and walked into the FBO wearing a pilot uniform. You have no idea how humilliating that is. Most of us wear sweaters or jackets to cover our uniforms when we have to get out of the plane away from home. I could surely do without the uniform.

This could start a whole other thread.

NEW UNIFORM POLICY

In effect as of last week:

All students will wear khaki pants and white aviator shirt, no epauletes/wings/tags.

Instructor uniform policy is unchanged.

Re: NEW UNIFORM POLICY

Ouch...that doesn't sound pleasant. I thought the idea of only the instructors wearing the aviator shirts was a better idea. Oh well, the price is still the best, even if you have to look like a dork.

And what if you refuse?

From what I heard, they point to the door.
