Is a uniform supposed to be not boring? What uniform for any job is not boring? I mean it is just clothing -- I didn't think any of it could really be anything but boring as far as dressup clothes go.

Inevitably someone will mention leather jackets or hats on here, then the ipod/hair gel/backpack comment will appear. Next, someone will chime in with a post to the effect of, "this is gonna be great, I'm gonna make popcorn so I can read the rest of it."

Anyway, I guess I just think that the uniform is fine as it is, worn properly. I must say my favorite US carrier's uniform is Delta because the jacket looks better with two rows of buttons.

It would be cool if someone allowed their employees to play around as long as it was full business.

I mean, you see lots of businesses do that and you get to see all sorts of different outfits. Some are good, some are bad, and some are like what the hell were you thinking when you put that together this morning.

Yes, I suggest this just wanting to see the fashion disasters that result! :D

1.identical or consistent, as from example to example, place to place, or moment to moment: uniform spelling; a uniform building code.
2.without variations in detail: uniform output; a uniform surface.
3.constant; unvarying; undeviating: uniform kindness; uniform velocity.

I think thats the point :D

When i get to the airlines,do you think i could wear those shoes with the little wheel thing in back. Looks like that would make walking around the terminal a lot better. And they are COOL. FLY SAFE T.C.

OOOOOOh man, I feel for you! I called pilot hats "ugly" in another thread and got the wrath from the tighty whities who wear the uniform infront of the mirror for hours on end!

Leather jackets on airline pilots are miserable.

This is gonna be great, I'm gonna make popcorn so I can read the rest of it!

Perfect! :laff:

I successfully predicted the future. :p

Don't you think that kind of defeats the purpose of UNIFORM? This is the aviation business, not the fashion business. I certainly don't expect Donatella Versace to fly airplanes. Flying passenger airplanes is supposed to be boring. Boring is good. When exciting things happen in an airplane, peolpe can and will end up getting injured or killed. And no, we are not at liberty to choose our own clothing. Not for work anyway. If you have an issue with what is required to be worn for work, you are at liberty to not work there.

I don't give a rat's behind about the whole leather jacket/hat argument. If your employer allows you to wear one or not the other, then so be it. If you want to set fashion trends, airline pilots are not the way to go. Flight Attendants on the other hand, knock yourself out.

I don't know. This is where I am pretty conservative.

If you WANT people to think you are less professional, then it's a great idea.

It may sound stupid, but for me green uniforms etc, it's just one step towards lowering pilot pay.

Perception is huge, whether it should be or not.

I also think the uniform is fine just the way it is. I took a double take when I first saw Jet Blues' uniform though. Not sure I like it: (first pic I could find)

Why does a judge wear a funny black robe? Shouldn't they be allowed to wear shorts & flip flops!

No. They're a judge. They're expected to look and act like a professional person of authority with some responsibility.

Wear your jobs' uniform (whatever the uniform and whatever the job) with pride and wear it as it's supposed to be worn. My dad was a hippie, but when he joined the Air Force in 1971 to avoid being drafted into the Army he cut his hair, shaved and conformed 100% to what was expected of him in that uniform. When he completed his service in 1975, the hair grew back :)

I thought they wore the robe BECAUSE they wanted to wear shorts and flip flops under it. Me? I'd go breezy under the robe. :D

As for uniforms, I always wondered why the airlines didn't standardize on a dark one-piece jumpsuit, like air force flight crews wear. Professional-looking AND functional.

Virgin America pilots wear a black turtle neck with black pants and a small pin to signify capt/fo. They look like gay Star Trek.
