For the first time, I was thrown under the bus by my manager and was fired. How do you guys/gals deal with something like this. How do I confront my boss while still being professional? I don't fly but the job that paid for the flying lessons and the bills is gone. Any advice. I'm job hunting tomorrow and I have some prospects. I think i'll play the lotto...not.

I wouldn't confront him, since it is hard to stay professional when u have been fired and been thrown under the bus. All I can say take a couple days off to cool off, then start searching for something else. You never know a new door might open for you.

Sucks to hear this, but obviously getting mad won't get you anywhere. I have no idea of your situation though and how it all went down. Are you in the Houston or San Antonio area?

Hey Matt, sorry to hear it. I would say just suck it up, no need to confront Them. You stay professional about it. What are you looking for, let me know and I will keep an eye out for you!

hey sorry for your loss , you should move on and look for other jobs
and since you got fired and did not quit , you should be able to collect unemployment .
one advice i can give you : dont waste your money on lottery tickets
the only way you can double your money is when you fold it in two and put it in your pocket
good luck

Thrown under the bus?

I read that as you were the victim of internal misconduct on the part of your manager? The fall guy for another ones wrong?

If so, call the EEOC, file a complaint with them. Its anonymous and you are protected by both state and federal law from any form of retribution or retaliatory acts including untrue or unwarranted information being passed on by your old boss to a potential new employer.

EEOC investigations can cause employers, especially former employers alot of heartache and heartburn and if found in violation of any section of employment law or regulations is $10,000 for each offense.

I had to go this route with a previous employer.

I filed a serious safety violation against them. The FAA came in a popped them good. They knew it was me as I was the only one who could of had the knowledge of all the events. So they waited about 6 months and trumped up some BS against me and began steps to fire me, then have me violated by the FAA. I retained counsel and we went the EEOC route.

They first tried to blow them off claiming the issue was between them, me and the FAA but that went over like a lead balloon and in a day or two 3 EEOC Investigators showed up in person and began raising all kinds of ruckus.

It turned out my old employer even tried to hid my actual employee file from them. Falsified time sheets and trip related documents. Then, once caught read handed, they denied everything.

EEOC ended up fining them over $60,000 just for the document SNAFU. I have no idea what the actual penalty was for my case being founded.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The whole situation was extremely preventable. Some of you may know and most of you don't is that I work at a fast food restaurant. I am currently attending school in San Antonio. I need money to pay basic bills such as elec. and cable and also my flying lessons which right now are second to bills. Long story short, a manger told the gm that it was singlehandedly my fault for the crew leaving so late. In reality, the manager did not do what she said she would do and led me to believe she had done something extremely time consuming for me. It's a moot point now. I could elaborate on this but ugh. It was a part time job so I don't know if I could collect unemployment.

Thanks for the heads up Tim. I would love something that a student pilot could do related to aviation that pays well enough to fly and pay bills.

I am currently in San Antonio. I am attending UTSA. My parents live in Houston which is where I grew up and I try to visit them as often as possible.
