Re: Unemployeed

Hey CK-

You've always had a tremendous drive and you're absolutely unsinkable. You'll always be a success in whatever you do and don't let the layoff break your spirit.

Your career has certainly been a real life example of preparation meeting opportunity. Keep your head up, keep it on the positive and continue kicking aviation ass my friend!

If I can help with anything, you know where to find me.

Re: Unemployeed

Sucks dude. Best of luck to you whichever direction you pursue.
Dude, is that the stag from Top Gear?

CK, good luck man and sorry to hear about your unfortunate circumstances. Keep your head up though. I am 26 going on 27 and still trying to get my comm done. So all in all you've got at the BARE minimum of 7 years on me. Seems as ifyou are a hard worker and you HAVE to have faith that you will be rewarded for this. Most 20 yr olds, I was one of them, are more concerned with how to get booze than their career so good on you for taking a serious interest and care in this.
Best of luck man, I hope you find something soon, aviation or otherwise.

Re: Unemployeed

Damn, sorry to hear bro. It seems you've been able to work to get where you are so far, so i wouldnt worry too much. You'll figure a way to get yourself back in the game. Just stay positive. Maybe since you've worked so hard to get where you are, it might be a nice time to just enjoy life while you're still 20? Take some time off, and just have fun taking up another hobby or something. At least in the mean time. Just a suggestion!

Re: Unemployeed

Hang in there... Seems like you've made it so far already you are going to be able to accomplish a lot in this industry.

Re: Unemployeed

Again, thanks for all of the kind words. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea, I was not out for sympathy. I know others here have had much worse things happen throughout their careers while having mouths to feed other than their own. There is a great line in Bob Hoover's book about a local bar where all of the test pilots drank. When one had a problem on a test flight, they would never come looking for sympathy, because every other person in the bar had been through the same thing, if not worse. I always liked that part in the book. I've got a few things coming together right now, hopefully something will come out of it.

Alex.

Re: Unemployeed

There's plenty of us in the same boat, Alex. But you seem like you have plenty of drive and will be back in the saddle in the not too distant.
I've just gone/am going through the same deal and it sucks big time.
I was also very lucky and hope to be again some day, doesn't mean anything, I've still had to work very hard to do this.
For now though I'll just have to CFI to stay in the air and hopefully things will turn around.

Best of luck

Re: Unemployeed

Keep your chin up, Alex. This industry needs good people desperately, so for my own self-interest, please stick with it:).

Re: Unemployeed

Thats what im sreamin!

If I was your age, in your position, I would have already signed up!

Best of luck

I would be applying for a little F-22 action. I see those things screaming out of Elmendorf through my living room window every day up here in Anchorage. Heck they almost plow through me when I fly out of merrill; I say military all the way baby!

Re: Unemployeed

Alex you're right, someone with your experience is most definitely worth more than 24k a year (less if you use any numbers other than the RAA's ;) )

For some reason it's not uncommon for people to assume achievement at a young age is attributed to someone else handing it to you. Obviously you have worked hard to follow your passion and get to where you are.

With all the battle cries from many of us regional pilots about lack of pay, it's really refreshing to see someone actually DO it and stay above the fray.

F-22 looks like fun but launching off a carrier in an F-18 or an F-35 in the future and the challenge of landing on a moving target sounds just as appealing!

As far as losing your job goes, it is part of life, it will happen to all of us. But I dont think you need to worry about using up all of your "luck". It was not luck that you got the jobs you had, it was the networking and the proven reputation of being a reliable, mature and competent pilot. Those are attributes that every employer looks for in an employee, especially one they will essentially be trusting their life too.

Re: Unemployeed

You are more or less a year older than me, but that mind as well be 10 or 15 experience wise. I admire your experience CK. Keep you head up, it'll turn around for you. You have a heck of a resume and I'll be astonished if no one wants you.

Re: Unemployeed

sorry to hear about the dropped gig. sounded liked you really enjoyed it while you were there.

as you posted, you're now in the unemployed boat with a bunch of other JC members. I feel like I've been "paying dues" for my entire career in aviation and wonder when opportunity will meet luck and start to pay the bills.

i think we all should pool our money together and start a property management group (ie buying and selling real estate after upgrading, otherwise known as "flipping" :) ) and have a company plane. anyone game?

Think so, Ed? Ask Alex how many hours of jet/multi-turbine time he'd logged before he could drive a car or solo a 152, and how he came to log them. His CFI corporate/charter pilot mother knew how to game the system and made sure he was primed to do so. In my opinion, it was nothing more than logbook padding, made legal by his mama's signature.

THAT'S how he got where he is today, not through hard work.

Re: Unemployeed

We're both adults here so let me give you some constructive criticism. I'm not going to assume malice, but you're really coming off as a very bitter person, Aloft.

I'm not sure if you intend to give that impression, but I'm having trouble giving you the benefit of the doubt on your tack.

Lighten up, the poor guy is unemployed and gave our community a sublime amount of motivation, support and someone to cheer for over the years.

Opportunity and preparation.

Who cares?
I have about 150-175 hours in a BE-58 doing the same thing with a good friend.

P.S. - Just because I didn't pay for it does not mean I didn't get anything out of it.

Also doesnt mean you earned it. If that claim about padding or some sort of creative dual-rec'd is true, well then bollocks to it all.

So basically those of us who don't start out with some gift of fate/birthright/bankaccount are screwed and if we dont get ahead its just because 'we dont try hard enough'.

Bollocks to that.

Ill go stand with a cardboard sign at the GA terminal road at AUS and call it 'networking'. How about that?

What are you talking about?
A friend who was a CFI would take me with him on flights and work on things.

Nah, I certainly didn't grow up with a silver spoon, had a mother that was scared poopless of flying and that if man were intended to fly, God would have given us wings, NO pilots in the family, grew up in a crappy neighborhood and didn't get much encouragement to from even my teachers. Most of the people that DID encourage me like my first CFI, my DPE for my private and the guy at the Chevy dealership that showed me his Beech Bonanza all died in separate airplane crashes the summer after high school.

Dude, if I can make it, holy cow, with enough motivation and stamina, but 17 pound calico could if she's persistent.

Probably couldn't pass the medical though. Min height requirements and all.

No where did anyone say it'd be easy, simple, cheap, guaranteed or even consistent along your career trek.
