You're right...the University would only have 11,000 undergraduates, not 13,000. Thats a huge difference. :/
 
The only thing UND would be moderately known for if Aviation wasn't there would be hockey. UND is known for their aviation program all over the country. TX, CA, WA, FL, NY...etc.

In so many ways I soooo agree with you (in bold) and you have a perfect point. I hate aviation students as much as I myself am one and have a big watch on my wrist. So we can say I'm one in denial. Believe it or not, when all the aviation students are out talking about airplanes, I'm out with people from other majors, other nationalities, other states, talking about anything else. Talking about having fun, we do so much stuff here no one else does. I'm sorry when I think of it, I see it as if we (outsiders) bring life to this little town, harsh to say but the truth is that this town does suck.

Anything you try to do 'fun' is wrong in this farm town.

To simplify the mentality of this town and support my explanation when there is a rock band playing while people have their fat arse sitting, Im up bashing in the front, and this is mostly with the outsiders (anyone but people from gfk). Screw Grand Forks. Disclaimer, I have met maybe 2 local that had a drive for FUN.

Don't beleive me, hang out with us and find out for yourself..

Really I'm not ranting on the other half of campus and I'm happy to hang out with them, I'm ranting on anything that symobolizes Grand Forks, and their pridefull UND.
 
a question to all of the posters in this and other threads in this section: if it's really so bad, why don't you go to a school in a better part of the country? suck it up and deal with it - quit complaining.

...because UND failed to accurately portray the living conditions of Grand Forks, North Dakota in their marketing pamphlets. It's very difficult to up and move back when you've already invested in $3,000 for moving expenses (keep in mind, I moved from a 2-bedroom condo with an already-established life on my own for many years) then pay for another $3,000 for the move back. Plus, the extra expenses I'd incur transitioning my training from Part 141 to Part 61 (probably not too much, but still a large enough expense).

That, my friend, is why we have every right to complain. I could say that if you don't like to hear my complaints, then don't read these forums. But, I wouldn't say that.

Now... let me say that the autocross event last Saturday was just pure fun. Those kinds of things help make this place livable.

That is the biggest load of crap I've read in a while. Didn't you come visit?

If you did visit, you can't mistake this place.

If you didn't visit, it's your fault for not doing so.

For your case, it is probably the biggest load of crap. You could hop in the car and a few hours later be in Grand Forks from Minot (isn't that where you're from?). But for my case, it makes a lot of sense.

At the time I couldn't afford the visit. I barely scraped by $3,000 to get here (trust me, the UHaul plus car trailer was 90% of those fees). $700 would've probably been the amount to visit (airfare plus hotel) and I was not in the position to afford that.

So, I relied on UND's marketing material to decide to come here.
 
The key word is marketing. Of course they aren't going to talk about the lack of things to do in Grand Forks and the stench of Simplot. It is marketing -- of course they are going to emphasize the positive aspects!

As for those bitching about ND. I'll admit this is one of the least favorite places I've lived in my life. I used to complain about it a lot too, but I've found it gets a lot better if you get yourself a good group of friends and find stuff to do. Yeah there are some big nerds here in the aviation program, but a good majority dont have the arrogance that I often see in this forum. A lot of the people who post here seem to think they're better than everybody else for some reason...but they're the ones who spend hours posting stupid s**t in this forum. Do you really expect UND's marketing to say "it gets freezing ass cold here in the winter. There's not a whole lot to do except drink and go to hockey games, so please bring a spare liver". Its a good school, and though sometimes it doesn't seem like it, time spent here is worth it. If you dont like it here, then go somewhere else. Some of you are complaining about the costs of moving...but dont tell me someone who lives in legacy, has some bigass LCD projector and drives a pretty decent car can't afford to save up for a while and relocate.

LOL - well if you knew how much I spent on the CRT (not LCD, those are $900-10,000) projector then you wouldn't be saying this would you? $150 was the price paid. Not difficult to afford. It works pretty darn good for $150 (in fact, better than any DLP/LCD projector below $1500)

While a bit pricey for Grand Forks, Legacy is cheap compared to where I came from. $380 per month is what I pay for my share of the apartment. I would agree that is the going price for what many students pay for in an apartment/roommate situation off campus. The car isn't too much of a decent car, but thank you for calling it pretty decent :) I really like it and it's the nicest car I've ever owned and will probably ever own until I'm maybe around age 30-35.

If you look at where I came from that will tell you why it was a bit harder to save up for the move. $3,000 is a lot of money, by ANY income. Add living in SoCal to the scenario and things change. My rent was $1300 in San Diego for a two-bedroom condo... and only part of that time I had a roommate to help split that cost down to $750 (my share). So I barely scraped by to save the $3,000. For me, saving that much money was a significant accomplishment.

In the end, all I want to do is finish my last year in school here and head out to some other part of the country (Colorado, Arizona, or Texas would be cool)...or who knows, maybe I'll get a job back home. My brother offered his spare room to me in Sandy Eggo, so maybe I'll end up doing that.

No worries bud, these guys hate UND and ND so much they won't be instructing there. They all should have only a year or two left and, as they say in Cali, they be gone. I would be interested to see the pamphlet that promised ND and UND would be just like everyone's hometown, have everything they like to do, and more, and has perfect weather??
Basing your decision on where to go to school based on what a 5 dollar pamphlet says, shows serious lack of judgement and decision making skills, oh where oh where might someone need those...
