UND Flight Classes During the Summer

They offer a six week session and a nine week session. All flight courses are offered during both. I transferred last year and did the nine week private pilot, but it took 14 due to weather, waiting for stage checks. You could always start during the six week and start 102 (the private pilot course) and bust out some gen ed requirements

Yeah, some classes are 6 weeks each. For example, this past summer, I was able to do 222 (Instrument) and 323/324 (Commercial) in the span of the summer. It was alot of work but very rewarding and I got really far ahead. Summer is an excellent time to do flight training in ND. Its USUALLY not extremely hot and humid, but there can be days like that.

That's my plan for this summer, I'm glad it worked out for someone. I love the idea of putting my job on hold and just flying for a few months

For those who took both flight and non-flight classes during the summer, was the workload much more difficult due to the shorter term? How many credits did you find reasonable?
For example, provided all these courses are offered during the summer, would something like this be realistic?
Avit 221 Basic Instrument Flying (3)
Avit 208 Aviation Safety (3)
Avit 250 Human Factors (2)
Avit 403 Aerospace Law (3)
Avit 402 Airport Planning and Administration (3)
(14 Credits Total)

I can't answer your question, but I'm in 221, 250, and 208 right now and the workload for all 3 put together is basically nil. 402 and 403 might be harder to do over the summer.

I think 250 would be your hardest class if it's with Jensen, it moves extremely fast and covers a lot of topic (I thought it was when I had him). Aviation safety with Ulrich (get him) is an awesome class and very easy. As for 221 it's not terrible, but you do have to have 102 (the private pilot course) done by then. You should also add aviation 100, just a 1 credit "intro" to aviation class.

Aviation Law is an easy A over the summer. I had Monty for 402, but he's gone now, so who knows who you will get. I took 12 credits last summer and it wasn't bad.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm looking to start in Spring 2013, and I'm hoping to get 102 and 100 done at that time. I'll do 221 and the others I mentioned during the summer. I'm transferring with a bachelors already, so almost all of my "essential studies requirements" should be taken care of. I'm hoping that my Spring looks something like this:
Avit 102 Introduction to Aviation (5)
Avit 100 Aviation Orientation (1)
AtSc 110 Meteorology I (3)
AtSc 110L Meteorology Lab (1)
Avit 103 Intro to Air Traffic Control (2)
(12 credits total)

No, this would not be a good summer for you. Typically 2 or 3 classes would be plenty.

Do you know if 12 credits are necessary for "full time status" during the summer as well? I need to remain full-time throughout the summer or the GI Bill will stop paying my full monthly housing allowance.

I'm pretty sure it's 9 credits. If you are flying, I would only do 9 personally. 12 is okay to do without flying.

I did, it was the only thing i did that summer, 5 credits =/= full time, so take something else like trap shooting.
As long as you aren't working full time it is the best time to take that course imho because of the work required

Did it. Grueling experience, but well worth it if you can keep up with the pace. It's a TON of work, but it's good flying weather and had my original instructor not left a month into the summer I would likely have finished in time to get hired that August outright. As it all turned out, I got picked up anyway conditionally and started here that October.
Moral of the story: if you're serious about getting hired to start the fall semester, have your stuff together and chew through it.
