We put studded tires on in The Capital City this year. I think for the number of days I would have missed work by being stuck in the driveway at home, we pretty much broke even. Now since our summer tires are rather worn down I can't do a direct comparison of studs vs. good all-season tires, but holy smokes this winter was night and day difference over last year without studs.

Yeah, studs are a good idea for your driveway. Studs arent as useful once you have more than a couple inches of snow. So for us who gets what feels like two feet of snow at a time they arent that useful.

BTW, we got our set of All-seasons at Costco there in Juneau.
