Ugh, surgery recovery sucks.

I had a laproscopic tubal ligation on Tuesday. How long does it take for the "puffyness" to go away? If I look at myself sideways in the mirror, I look like I'm about 4-5 months pregnant! (NOT cool. :mad: ) All I want to do is lay on the couch cause walking around still hurts :( Sadly, the kids won't allow it....... :o

How much of that gas do they use in a procedure like that? Recovery is far easier than recovery from my c-sec was, but it's still not fun. Worth it, but not fun.

Amber, I remember my ex often telling me that the gas is the worst part of any laproscopic procedure. I'll let the doc chime in here, but if I recall correctly, you're suppose to move around and try to get the gas that they blow you up with out. Are you having a lot of shoulder pain too?

Moving around does help. I don't feel like going out, but it's not fair to the kids to keep them bottled up here in the house so I get them out at least once a day. When I'm out with them moving and walking I don't notice it near as much as when I'm here trying to do dishes or cook dinner or wrestle the kids into their clothes.

I did have some of the shoulder pain the first 48-ish hours afterwards. The staff at the surgery center warned me about it, so it wasn't a surprise. It wasn't too bad, actually, just felt like needle pricks on the inside of my shoulder joint & shoulder blades. I may not have even noticed it if I hadn't been forwarned!

At least I've had good excuse to wear my "comfy clothes" and not feel obligated to dress up :D

I'm an extremely naughty patient who tries too hard to to do everything again entirely too soon. I went home 40 hours after my c-sec, was driving 5 days after (if I wanted to see my baby in the NICU, I had no choice), and lifting my 19-month old 6 days after. Very bad. But I tend to suffer from a "Superiority Complex" that I think that I have to do everything.

Bill had to physically remove me from in front of the dishwasher Tues evening (the night of the procedure). I started loading the dinner dishes out of habit. :rolleyes: He asked me what the hell I thought I was doing, and took my shoulders and marched me to the couch. Bad mommy. :o

Oh, you're one of those types too? I overdid it after having a c-section with my premature twins. Same thing, had to drive to visit them for a month at the NICU and JUST HAD TO finish my Christmas shopping. My ob-gyn was not too pleased with me when I called him telling him "I hurt." :D

It lasts about 10 days. They use the gas to enhance their ability to see but it has to be absorbed and the abdomen is irritated by the gas - thus the bloated feeling. By 3 weeks you will be back to normal.

The OB who performed the procedure kind of made it seem like I'd be back to speed and "normal" 3-5 days afterwards! I see now it's going to be a bit longer ;)
 
Isn't it ironic that when we have no excuse to slow down we wish for one. When we have every reason in the world to justify taking it easy, we refuse. Very complex animals we seem to be...:confused:
 
I wish I could take it easy. A 4 year old and a 2 1/2 year don't care one bit how I feel. They still want their dinner :)

To Bill's credit he did help out a great deal. He picked up the kids from preschool on Tuesday, and his parents brought some frozen casserole something to put in the oven. I was in bed 1/2 hour after the kids were that night! Sadly, he had to go back to work yesterday morning. Darn work, always getting in the way...... :D So, I've got to at least do the minimum to take care of them.

Perhaps grandma and grandpa would like to take the kids for a few hours a day? Hopefully, that would occur to me if my daughter or daughter-in-law needed a little rest. I know what a handful kids can be....
I'm sure Bill wishes he could spend more time home to help as well. Nobody said life would be easy did they???

It's kind of like being a doctor's wife, you're pretty much on your own a lot of the time, which isn't always bad, except when you're under the weather. My ex was doing his residency when our first son was born, so I didn't see him for 2 weeks after his birth. I was lucky he even made his 2nd son's birth because he was scrubbed all day doing 5 deliveries and surgery. I labored at home by myself all day because I couldn't get ahold of him, but I made it to the hospital just in time - 15 minutes after I got there, my son was born, and his father literally had to gown and run into the room to watch his own son come into the world...LOL...take it easy and take care of yourself Amber. :)

Yes, they told me that after my last surgery too. It took me a month. Just stick with it.

I had a lap. procedure done on a Tuesday morning. Wasnt too much pain for the first few days cause i was still coasting on the pain meds, about Friday it all started coming home to me as far as the pain, but after a few days of that i progressively started feeling better . About a week and a half later i was out on the mower mowing my yard. Little discomfort when i hit a bump but not bad. I think about 3 weeks later,I was not having any pain,Maybe a little stiffness,but not bad at all. Hope you get to feeling better soon. FLY SAFE T.C.
 
Amber, how can I convince my wife to go through the same procedure? Her argument is that she gave birth to our 2 children and she thinks its my turn for a little sacrifce, a.k.a. a vasectomy. I like the tubal ligation option much better as it doesnt require a needle near my parts.:buck:

I wouldn't wish this on anyone. There was more than one reason I had this procedure. There was a moment yesterday when I was in more pain than I'd been in since the day my first son was born.

A vasectomy has it's risks, like any procedure, but it's a far less painful and invasive procedure than a tubal.

If you can get past the "ookie-ness" of having a needle near your junk, it's really not that bad. I had the procedure done 3 months ago, and yeah, it was sore for a few days, but it's WELL worth it. Felt bruised and had to take short steps for 5 days, the next 2 weeks, I could definitely feel it during certain "extra-cirricular" activites, but after that, it's like nothing happened.

Do it. You're girl will very much appreciate it.

And amber, my wife said it took like 2-3 weeks for the gas to fully clear her system. Yes it's painful, but it wont be that long.
 
2 or 3 weeks can seem like an eternity when you have that gas in your system....not that i would know, but i can just imagine feeling horribly bloated everyday to the point of painful for 2-3 weeks. OUCH!
