Currently instructing in an archer but looks like I'll be in class for the emb145 in a coulple months.

I dont like the fact that you cant just use a battery with the qc25 and I read the right side goes dead after a few months of use, it is a general problem theyve had with this headset.

It takes one AAA battery, what do you mean about it can't use a battery and what general problem? The new Uflymike harmony has been out for just over a month a half. I've been using it with no issues on my 25s
 
I doubt whomever is employing you in a emb145 will be happy with a ufly setup anyway. TSO and all that....

I've always thought it was strange that regionals are really concerned about this but it's a non-issue at the major airlines I'm familiar with.

at least in my experience of both company and random FAA line checks, its never been mentioned/brought up . Of course YMMV.

The qc25's have 1 rechargable battery, IMO i think it is easier to use regular batteries in case the battery dies in flight.

The reviews for the qc25's indicate that the right side stops working after a few months of use and Bose is aware of the issue.

The issue with the qc15's is that they cant be TSO certified and that currently Harmony does not work with them eventhough they are up for sale. What they said is that they are redesigning the plug and they dont know when this will be resolved.

I've had my QC25s over a year now with no issue at least, I never used a rechargeable battery either, its always been one AAA. And as far as the Harmony goes, they are working on getting the TSO certification retroactively.
 
I have the TSO'd uflymic, FWIW. I bought it from eBay TSO'd so I didn't go out actively looking for it. Nobody cared, in fact my IOE instructor had the non TSO version. (And showed me how to adjust the mic boom sensitivity in the 175 so I didn't annoy everyone with the hot mic...). Literally no one has ever questioned it, including FAA riders. I always carry the TSO backup earbuds just in case, but in reality you know when the battery is getting low (it starts "popping") so it shouldn't fail by surprise... hours of warning. I carry a boatload of batteries, and I just hit the speaker button while I change them.

I was under the impression that to operate them compliantly under the TSO, you had to be wearing the buds, not just possessing them? I've used them for years but then switched jobs which has specific verbiage in the manual precluding their use. So, being the good boy, I don't. Shame, the 2nd gen QC 15 kicks some azz. I did have to replace a speaker in one once, was cheap to get on ebay.

Correct, you have to wear the earbuds to be in compliance with the TSO... that's why I'm saying a "dymo labelmaker" wouldn't actually get you in compliance. The thing is... it just doesn't make any sense. That's why they weren't able to get TSO'd without the earbuds, because the battery could die leaving you to press the speaker button in absolute horror and possibly miss a radio call. And yeah that wouldn't be great at an important time, but presumably there's two of you and the other guy is probably gonna hear the call. Headsets aren't even required at my shop above 10,000 feet, and I've had it MEL'd entirely (and the MEL lets you just use the hand mic and speaker below 10k)... All of this notwithstanding that if you just replace the batteries every time it starts clicking, it'll never die on you without warning and the whole issue is moot.
I don't see why they couldn't have just TSO'd it with a sticker that says "Caution: when battery is low, replace it before battery fully dies." but I digress. But I possess the earbuds in case somebody wants to raise a fuss about it... also, if I somehow ran out of batteries I'd still have a usable headset.
I could care less what the other pilot is wearing for a headset, as long as he can hear and answer 100% of radio calls.
