UA\'s new paint job

Just wanted to see everyone's opinion on United's new paint job. Like it or don't? What's your preference between the new livery and the last two?

Personally I like the new livery, but I'm also a fan of the blue and gray scheme.

Also, anyone know when the first 744 in the new livery will debut?

Re: UA\'s new paint job

I liked the overall white with an orange and blue stripe, circa mid 1970s to early 1990s.

Re: UA\'s new paint job

Its nice, I like it..........

but, this is why the airlines wonder why they lose money.....was it necessary? not really....this is where they blame the pilots for making them lose money...funny how it works, eh?

Re: UA\'s new paint job

Well, actually UA is only repainting the aircraft on their regular schedule; that's why the livery is growing so slowly. The aircraft would have been repainted anyway so actually the only cost to the airline is what they spend in research/ development of the paint job.

Re: UA\'s new paint job

I like it but as Darren says, it isn't really a priority at this hard period in the aviation industry. It is not like a new paint scheme is going to attract more customers or is it?

Re: UA\'s new paint job

From what I heard from a friend who works at UAL the reason for repainting the aircraft is two fold:

1.) White is cheaper than gray. They had to repaint their aircraft anyways and white was a much cheaper alternative.

2.) Internal focus groups and polls taken by UAL have indicated that there is a perception of negativity with the current livery. Most people see the gray airplanes and the first image that comes to mind is of the 76 going into Tower 2. The second negative connotation is that most people still relate the livery to the mismanagement of years past (Summer of Hell in 2000).

Re: UA\'s new paint job

I also heard that it's related to their emergence from bankruptcy this summer. New airline, new image. Just look at their ads.

Re: UA\'s new paint job

I think the UAL ads rock. The guy with the mismatched shoe kind of pulls the heart strings... mrrph!

Re: UA\'s new paint job

Yeah im still wondering how UAL can afford TED and re painting their fleet but cant afford to pay ACA current costs.....

Re: UA\'s new paint job

Well, enjoy those ads, because they're going to be going away in about a month or so. They'll be doing a new campaign soon. Not sure what it's going to look like, but the people doing it are pretty excited so if it's as good as the current one, it will be good.

I think that American and United are doing the right thing with their current marketing campaigns. They're not selling price, they're not selling services they can't provide, they're selling that they can get you anywhere. That's the edge that they have over the LCCs and it's smart of them to sell that.

When's Delta going to step up to the plate, Doug?

Re: UA\'s new paint job

But, Tony... they "Love to fly .... and it shows."

They'll "get you there."

They're "my airline."

Oh, my God, when was the last time I saw one of those ads? I honestly don't remember one. Heck, I think I've seen more advertising for Delta faucets than Delta Air Lines lately!

Tony,

N102DA, a 767, has been painted in a "retro" commemorative 75th anniversy paint scheme. I believe this is the only plane Delta will be painting up like this.

Re: UA\'s new paint job

Yea I just saw a picture of the new "retrojet" or whatever it's called and IMHO it looks terrible. Gray and bland.

Re: UA\'s new paint job

LOL! I didn't say I liked it, I was just advertising it so Tony could sleep better tonight

Re: UA\'s new paint job

Okay, so this is a little late in the thread, but thought I'd mention I'm not sure what to think about UALs new paint scheme. I'm with Mike, I liked their old white with orange, red, and blue stripes the best.

I like UAL's commercial: the two shoes symbolizing the two different carriers, Ted and UAL mainline. The guy getting the job symbolizing UAL being successful with two carriers is a pretty unique idea.

Then again, I'm not in marketing.
