UAS International Trip Support

Hello all.

I just got offered a position at UAS as an International Operation Specialist.

Job description is as follows:

http://www.uas.aero/company/careers/4

Thoughts on this job? Has anyone heard anything about this company? I realize this is more than just dispatch, but dispatch is still my career goal. Would this be a good start for a youngin' like myself? The pay is quite decent.

Thank you.

JT8D :)

I have a friend there, he likes it. Can't speak to intelligently about the work though.

Sounds good. Thank you.

I have a dilemma.

I really want to stay in the D/FW area. I have an interview with Envoy, but as a ramp slave. Are my chances very good of getting into DX there if I was to work there instead? I am worried about turning down a well paying job and taking this "risk," but it is not all about money for me.

Thoughts?

Umm ramp work at envoy pays well...and its union, not sure what they're outlook is right now, I'd probably avoid their dispatch and any flight operations for Envoy at this moment.

Sounds good. Thank you.

Unless you HAVE to stay in the DFW area I'd recommend taking the job and making your way back to Texas first opportunity you get. If you have to be away for a year or two to end up gainfully employed in your hometown for the foreseeable future it may just be worth it depending on your circumstances.

That being said go into it with that mindset. Don't move all your stuff into some grandiose apartment/new house that you'll be locked into if you know you can be gone in a year and a half (timing relocation can be difficult).

Honestly I think ground support is the part of Envoy that will ultimately survive, at least in the moderate term. Don't look at Envoy bag smashing as a path towards AA dispatch, though. The ranks are dwindling at Envoy so moving up AND moving out might take more time then they have.

With their airplanes scheduled to be reduced, they may not need dispatchers for a while. Even with attrition to mainline they might still be overstaffed once the planes start leaving. I would not work the Envoy ramp trying to get into dispatch at this time. Envoy flying side might not be in business for much longer.

JT8D,
I would forget about envoy. Why would a huge company like AA change the name of a huge, well branded subsidiary, especially a brand like American Eagle??? Why do you think they did that? Hmmm...let me think...! Oh!
Exactly, nobody wants to see them dismantle American Eagle...that would be huge news and the public would want to know why, plus they still have all the rights to the brand. It can re-emerge one day when needed. But as for Envoy...who cares? Who has even heard of it? What the heck does envoy even mean?? (pls do not reply, I know what it means) Exactly. that's why it's easy to dismantle because nobody will pay attention as folks are kicked to the curb. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. The AMR or whatever they are called these days knew the pilots were going to reject the crappy "deal" and they were ready to swing the wrecking ball tout suite.

I also agree with the other guys...getting a job, so that one day you can get another job, so that one day you might end up in the SOC?? What what what??? No way. Aim high, use a short trigger and hit the bullseye.

And as for UAS, great company, You will see and learn so much more about global aviation and the goings on in the GA side of the biz...not just dispatching, you will see it all. And lots of different airplanes. I think you might just like it! The only down side is it's not part 121 operation...But that is not a deal breaker at all. You can do so much more in terms of job description...and come away with a great resume someday.

So...Where does that leave you? I think we have our answer.
Ill just put my tip jar right over...here.

Geeze dude....American Eagle became the brand. When the American Eagle Airlines became Envoy; American Connection which was made up of Republic, SkyWest, Express Jet, PSA, Piedmont, and possibly others (forgive me if I left anyone out) got rebranded to American Eagle. American Eagle is now just the name for all regional flights in the American Airlines system. It had nothing to do with people "flipping out" and a lot more to do with marketing strategy.

There was no great conspiracy to hide the shut down of Eagle, it was a rebranding effort to reduce the number of airline names from three down to two. More than that during the post bankruptcy restructuring American Eagle Airlines (now Envoy) was almost sold off, especially since they were the only profitable company in AMR. (Oh and by the way it's AAL now)

As for people being "kicked to the curb" I think most Envoy pilots will be ok..More importantly, I think most dispatchers will be too.

By the way I wanted to post my favorite line from the movie Billy Madison, but that felt too mean..

I've used UAS before at a previous company. They are good to get overflights and operating permits, but they still have to go through the government entities just like smaller 135's. They are a decent one stop shop. Ask for training in the UAE since they have a big HQ in AUH and DXB.
