UAL A319’s

Did United recently acquire a bunch of A319’s? Swear I used to almost never see them coming into EWR and last week or so every other plane is an A319.

United has 67 A319s, most recently delivery was 12/18/2017, so no. Maybe they just added more to EWR on the timetables?

I think UA was the original launch customer for the 319 in the US and they still fly them. I haven’t seen that they have had a new addition since 98.

They had a bunch from China and Turkey in ‘17-18. Nerd.net says they have 14 more coming.

They had new ones (used but new to them) delivered as recently as December 2017

Also- I’m flying to EWR this morning. 1637 from FLL. I’m the talker. Don’t make fun of my trees and fifes.

Very off-topic...

I wonder about what are the main differences in efficiency between a 319 and a 73G. I've seen new built 319s showing up on several EU airlines over the last 5 years or so. Whereas the 73G is like the 762.

They are the same size/config, same-ish engines, same weight...And both are pretty successful in their MAX/neo versions (not).

One reason for the orders of A319s in recent years has to do with the fact that when easyJet and others asked for a second overwing exit on the 73G to cram in more seats, Boeing said no. Airbus on the other hand said yes and added a second over wing exit to the A319 and a lot of the more recent orders for the A319 had that extra exit built in.

No, thankfully UA isn’t cramming in more seats into the 319s. It’s more a comment on the general fact that orders for both the 73G and 319 largely dried up due to the fact that the larger versions of both families are generally more profitable to operate and the only reason for any kind of sales bump in new 319s was Aibus’ willingness to add the extra exits while Boeing said no and lost, in easyJet’s case, a 100+ aircraft order and customer.

We are, however, adding more first class seats to our 319/320 while keeping the same number of economy seats. (I think).
