Hello all. I am curious what would be the typical entry-level airport ops pay/salary for a person who is starting out in airport operations? I work at a small but fairly busy GA airport and the pay for me is close to $11/hr or about $20,000 a year. Is this typical for a person starting out in airport ops at a GA airport?

That varies wildly depending on what size airport and what scope of job duties you're peforming. Also, to an extent, what area of the country you're in.

All that being said, I would consider $11/hour for entry level work at a GA only airport to be fairly average. I'd need to know more about the airport.

Airport ops for sacramento, ca is $18/hr. It's a county job with full medical/retirement benefits. These guys have a wide range of jobs that they do. They wear "cop like" uniforms and "enforce" airport rules. They check the runways, perimeter fencing, and enforce speed limits on airport roads.

$45k seems to be in the ballpark for our most junior ops managers - these are generally people with an aviation degree and some line experience (entry level for us, though with some experience). This is for a mid sized international airport with 400+ flights a day.
Not to mention a highly skilled marketing team that enjoys cake.....

In the Bay Area, SFO starts in the high 60s/low 70s salary and with OT and such people very quickly start breaking 6 figures, sometimes even in the first year before raises. OAK and SJC pay similar though a little less and with my understanding less opportunity for extra cash. I threw my hat in for all the ops positions around here, heard back from a GA airport but they required Fire/Medical experience as well as you have to be the "first responder" in a GA crash which is understandable though disappointing as I met every other qualification. That job paid between $20-25/hr if I remember...could have been a little more/less. Every ops job around here is a city job, though the departments vary. I know Oakland is through the Port of Oakland while San Francisco considers you a branch of law enforcement.
Airline ops can pay well too. Around here, some of the smaller airlines(flights per day wise) pay $13-14/hr to start, others pay similar but it is the same payscale as ramp/customer service. Both of the hub airlines at SFO pay much, much more than that and actually rival the city job in pay at least.
Remember though, making $12/hr here is like making $7/hr or so in some parts of the US.
