Typical Day For Freight Pilot

na just a baron:( Id love to fly the MU2 someday though, anyone have a website of any of the companies that fly them like eps/bankair/ etc?

You're crazy! Those things are coffins with wings dude. You're better off bull fighting without a sword!

thats kinda why id like to try em someday just for the challenge, I hear single engine ops are fun seeing how it doesnt have ailerons:D

Dude, there's a "challenge" and there's voluntary suicide. Just run an accident histroy report on the MU2 and you'll see why they have a notorius reputation. They are just more prone to breaking then the average airplane. Plus they're ugly.

Problem is those things were built for speed and you have to drop some of the stick and rudder habits you were taught in primary training. Also, I don't know how they handle ice, but just the looks of the things gives me an impression that ice is not what you want flying around in one. It just seems like the kind of airplane that can get away from you really fast and be absolutely non-forgiving. Some people handle that kind of thing well and fly without incident and some people run into problems that kill.

I don't have very much expierence flying them (think like 11 hours), but from what I have been told, the problem with the aircraft is when someone tries to fly it like a normal twin such as a baron or king air when you loose an engine. One of the guys I flew with told me you have to fly it like a jet, because the wings only have a surface area a little larger than a 172 (or so he says), and that if you loose an engine on takeoff you don't retract the flaps until a very safe altitude because that is what generates most of the lift.

But take what I said as a grain of salt.

Well how do they turn without ailerons? Humans haven't perfected "wing warping" to be able to turn like a bird does in flight so I'm asking and wondering. How does the thing turn without ailerons?

Spoilers, or I believe they are called spoilerons on the MU-2.

Oh yeah, to add to the typical freight day...

Fly 3 legs (supposedly), get fogged out of your destination, your first diversion, second, land at your third diversion (I'm sitting in CID right now), get fogged in, add another leg to your flying and get home (hopefully) only 3-4 hours late!

How could you not love this cockpit!

Where can one find information on smaller freight.. Non ups, fedex, whatever.. For new guys breakin into the freight world. Are there things like the regional passanger airlines for cargo? Regional cargo LOL?

Are the requirements about the same as what the regional passanger airlines are hiring?

Thanks in advance,

Trybysky,

What run are you doing at BFI that flies 9pm-5am? Jo'? 99? I heard you were in Tube class. Congrats!

yeah, it was 488 in the tube. Great run! Hope I can hold that run in the next month or so.... for now I'm in PDX TDY... Medford run this week (thanks brian!) and good 'ol Richland next week! This airplane is pretty sweet.

There was a 757 run that sounded just like that over peak. Wonder if the Metro run is getting "augmented" for Christmas.

Does that Metro come into the UPS ramp? I'll have to keep my eyes open next time I'm in OAK early in the morning.

hey don...

no, the metro doesn't stop at UPS... it goes to AMF ramp sits for at most 1 hr and goes back to PDX.

You in town this week? we need to get together...been too long.
