Typical day at the Academy?

For those of you who have been at the Academy, what is the typical day like? What do you do about lunch? Can you bring your own food? Any information on the logistics would be great. Thanks in advance.

Yea, there's nothin to sweat. Just need to make sure you study outside of class, too. The new cafe has extremely good food for a cafe, but as bippoptl said you can also bring lunch and not only do they have the microwave but they even have a fridge. The first day and half of the next are quite lame as they knock out admin stuff. In case you planned on it, make sure you don't watch porno on the guvm't pc's.

Just be prepared to be bored out of your mind at times in basics. There are some subjects here that they just draw out WAY too long. We probably spent the better part of 3 hours on runway/taxiway markings and lighting, only for there to be not one question on the block test about them. If you went to a private pilot ground school, they could teach the same in about 30 minutes at most. While there are some subjects that really do take that long to teach them properly, there have been some that include (IMHO) a bunch of filler material to make it take up more time. Your individual study time will vary, I walked in here with an instrument rating, so everything so far, except for some of the general aspects of separation and radar, have been review for me. If you have similar experience, expect it to be much the same for you. If you do not, you will probably need to take some time nightly to at least review your notes and read through the binder they let you borrow, if for no other reason that they are throwing a ton of information at you rather quickly at times. The material is laid out in a way that you do not have to have any prior experience to be able to understand it, but as one of my fellow classmates mentioned, it is just quite a bit of material.

Suggestion - bring own food! The food is really expensive at the MMAC!

Get used to studying cause when you get to your facility, that is all you will do! My husband has had a test every day for the last 2 weeks!

You can bring your own food, but be warned.

Building 14: (Ted's)
- You fight for the microwaves. They are dirty, unreliable, and if the bottom one stops working, jam the door handle to your right. Seriously.
- Don't buy the taco salad.
- Never eat anything on a bun before Wednesday.

Stafford:
- The refrigerator is huge, but smells of dead opossum.

New Cafeteria:
- All I know is the "eggs" come out of a squirt bottle.

OMG! That's the best eggs dispensing idea I've ever heard!

When I think of how many things I put in a squirt bottle...I can't believe I never thought of eggs!

This is the wife.. so i dont know what the food is like first hand but my husband really likes to "forget" to bring his sack lunch at least once a week becuase he really likes the philly steak sandwiches there. Its pricey though.. which is why i keep trying to make him take a sack lunch!

Solution to beat the wait... Microwave your food on the break you get roughly 30-45 minutes before lunch/dinner and wrap it in aluminum foil after you heat up your food. It will stay warm until you eat lunch/dinner.

Looks like PB&J and ravioli for me every day.

Not mixed together of course.

You know, the local grocery has $10 for 10 Chef Boyardee raviolis this week.

I've eaten in some top restaurants all around Europe, but there's no luxury like sitting on my own couch with a bowl of canned ravioli fresh out of the microwave.

I'm weird like that.

Dont forget easy mac!
Mmmm.. EASY MAC FOR THE WIN!

i had to stomp on some cockroaches while eating in ted's. and i am a dog person but they keep a dog in the kitchen. they do have the best bacon cheese burger next to whataburger in okc tho.

i believe the dog is an assistant for the one of the employees. Something like a seeing eye dog but I don' think the person is blind. Im not sure what the technical name for that type of dog is though.

and she always carrys around that toy in her mouth, I think its attached to her, lol. And for the microwaves, I was only able to get it to work the first day and never since then. You have to guess on the time entry because there is no number pad.

I just remember that the bottom button gives you 2 minutes. If whatever I'm cooking calls for less, I just stop it earlier.

As inexpensive as microwaves are at Wal Mart, why can't someone there just go and buy two NEW ones for $40 a pop and get rid of those POSs? I've just stopped bringing stuff that needs a mircrowave while we're on nights. Everyone goes to dinner at the same time on night shift, resulting in a long line for the microwave.
