Type ratings, teaching them

I think the hiring qualifications vary from training center to training center; this is due to the aircraft being taught and the concentrations of pilots in specific areas. I work at a small market center and our new hires usually have greater than 4000 hours of flight time. With the exception of possibly an in-company referral all new hires have at least one type rating when they come in the door.

That being said I agree with my companies basic principal that teaching really does not require a great deal of pilot experience. What teaching does require is a respect for the educational process and the dedication to meet the expectations of the clients. Experience is really only needed to gain creditability in the eyes of the students.
