Two Dead in Bonanza Crash in South Florida [Video]

Don’t know if it’s true, but supposedly this plane was a recent import from South Africa. It was for sale on trade-a-plane with 49 STOH...done in 2011.
That is true. Corrosion was found in the engine as well. It was imported, painted and sold.

A guy on Beechtalk was looking at this plane and walked away.

My baby brother died of SIDS at 8 months old. The wound is still deep with my mother 30 years later, his birthday and date of death every year she has a hard time. Especially since he died during the holiday season, it’s pretty sad. I couldn’t imagine losing my son, but life is fragile and at times not at all fair to even the best of people.

I had five siblings total but we lost two of them, Glenn Richard and Mary Lynn, not very long after each was born. 50+ years ago now.

Turns out the pilot/owner was a former Minnesota resident and a businessman. Lived just south of here and was very popular at the airport. Lots of coverage in the local papers.

RIP.

Just realized it was a B36TC — that’s a touchy engine. And it had a gear-up in ‘01. I have to wonder how that was cleared.

When you scroll Kathryn's report, it makes you wonder why anyone insures GA anymore.

You might not be surprised, then, that insurance rates have about doubled for most GA pilots over the past few years. We former airline guys have escaped unscathed (my rates have gone up only a few percent), but you should hear the bitching from everyone else!

I'm not - and it makes sense.

To be fair, the two 737 accidents raised our rates.

I’d bet the ADS 350 and Kobe’s S76 did more for the sector. The liability of 121 ops is a different class of coverage. There are only, what, 2 or maybe 3 places covering liability policies high enough to cover them.

Meh, mine went up 20% and I did nothing other than get more time in the airplane.

Owner flown turbines and stupid pilot tricks therein has contributed the most to GA insurance increases.

Beyond simple premiums, insurance companies are outright refusing coverage to some demographics, and that’s bleeding into part 91 and 135 ops as well. Guys/gals who wanted to “fly till they died” are encountering this uncomfortable bump.

I'd say it means the system is working. We, as a pilot lot, aren't very objective when it comes to the risks associated with elderly pilots. Fortunately insurance risk models care not for our petty human emotions.

But at 80-years plus, just let it ride assuming your plane is paid off. Let your estate pay off any liabilities.

One one my friends saw more than a 30% increase and their broker just said “737 Max & Kobe.”

As they should. Contrary to what the Age 65 crowed pushed with their absurd rhetoric, cognitive research is pretty clear and has been for quite some time that cognitive ability deteriorates after 60, and deteriorates precipitously after 70.
