Tustin blimp hangar destroyed by fire.

This is the same hangar (of the two) that suffered a partial collapse of one end 10 years ago, destroying an experimental blimp inside.

With the wood frame truss construction, there wasn’t much firefighters could do but remain outside.

Whoa damn! That is super sucky. We flew right past them just the other day. I remember going into one of them (not sure which), as a guest of my older cousin's when he was an H-46 crew chief way back when.

I have no real attachment to those hangars other than as landmarks as I sat in traffic.. But when I saw the news at 5am it made me sad. I guess they're a symbol of what we used to be able to do. Those buildings are massive. Progress!

I do like to see extraordinary things like this preserved or repurposed with a nod toward their past... but I do think we may be a bit *too* attached to our history sometimes.
How do you feel about The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island?

Imma stop you right there.

I'm not willing to have a ridiculous conversation full of hyperbole and straw men over this.
You said you think we might hang on too long to our history, I asked a simple question (that you won't answer) trying to figure out your parameters. If a blimp garage from the '40s seems pedestrian to you what actually does strike your fancy. You know what won't get saved? Beale. I should also say there's rumors that this fire might've been deliberate, a lot of people want to develop that land, I have no idea of the veracity of those rumors, just tossing it out there. I've been lucky enough to visit a couple of the blimp garages, the most memorable is in Tillamook OR, it has a museum and if you're not lactate intolerant you can visit the dairy and the the factory in town that makes all of that tasty cheese and ice cream, it's awesome.

Someone’s been reading about historical preservation laws in housing policy

They have “historical zones” in my old town. Due to the wording in the law, they demolish the entire structure except for one wall, and build an entirely new structure around it.

Design a game, people will play it.

This I’m actually cool with, although it probably jacks up the price of new construction

You will note that I said "extraordinary things, like this"
