On 4 February 2018, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) suspended permission for Turkmenistan Airlines to operate services to the European Union.
EASA suspended the airline “pending confirmation that it meets international air safety standards”, without going into details.
Turkmenistan Airlines operates a fleet of 4 Boeing 737-700’s, 8 Boeing 737-800’s, 3 Boeing 757-200’s and 2 Boeing 777-200LR’s. European destinations were Frankfurt, Germany; Paris, France; as well as Birmingham and London in the United Kingdom.

Turkmenistan also has a few 717s but they haven't been seen for a few years. When Delta, Hawaiian and Qantas were all trying to pick up more planes 2 years ago there was some speculation that their's would come on the market. I don't think anybody would have taken them though as their service records would be questionable at best.

I get the shade that people throw, but I'd really like to spend some time in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan - it looks like the hiking is badass.

My younger brother went hiking in Kyrgyzstan and absolutely loved it. Last trip we were broken and 20 minutes away from timing out in Almaty. We were all super excited and making plans when the mechanic there somehow fixed it. We were sad, looks like an amazing place.
