turboprop vs. jet time (all 121)- do majors care?

I'm not even sure B1900s are certified for flight into known icing

They aint Seminoles ya know ...

Even the Otter is Know Iciing ok and it's not a Transport Category aircraft.

There is still close to 2,000 UAL pilots on the street. There are still UAL pilots at SKYW. One just upgraded with me in Feb. Your looking at 2.5 to 3 years at the minimum before United starts hiring again. Thats if fuel doesn't go to 100 bucks a barrell. Thats only if theres not another economic downturn. Thats if..........you get the idea.

1900 on furlough and the company doesn't really expect more than 50% to return. 5-6 years is a long time and people have moved on ... to various things.

21,000 lbs is the weight that's being thrown around lately. The 1900 doesn't quite make it.

Time is time. You should NOT chase ANYTHING but the best possbile paycheck you can. EVERYTHING else is irrelevant.

Exactly!!!
Go for a good company with a good contract, and enjoy it. You know when you have stop paying dues? When you decide to.
So many dudes think "Well, I'll just tough it out at this lousy flight school...bigger and better things...." Then they think, "Well, I'll just tough it out at this lousy regional/freight/charter gig... bigger and better things..." Then they think, "Well, I didn't really want to be based in Kalamazoo and sit in the right seat of a 73 for 8 years... but... bigger and better things..." Then they wake up one day and realize they hate thier job, hate flying, and hate thier life.
Don't work for crappy comapnies!! Don't sell your soul for an upgrade, and don't work cheap.

Hey 602, where do you hear that 21,000 stuff? I believe you, I'm just curious what sort of places are considering that.

Aww! You mean a leather jacket, sideburns and spiked hair isn't enough? :)

There's a particular airline with a lot of pilots that sport that look but I ain't sayin' nuttin!

Hey hey hey, I'd kill to be based in Kalamazoo! You want to talk about a crappy northern Michigan town, then lets talk about Mount Pleasant or Alpena or if you're really unlucky Houghton. You know what's close to Houghton? Nothing, in fact less than nothing; the Canadians don't even live up there far north!

Yeah, but is good bouldering worth living in El Paso? I mean, Rimer's in Austin has some kickass limestone, I'd rather live there and commute!

But still, just a couple hours north of El Paso is a secret canyon full of developed Limestone sport routes that are only climbed by 15-20 people, with grades from 5.6-5.13c's.

But that's just me playing the devil's advocate, not only is Austin a much more interesting city, it's got Reimer's, and E-Rock just a little ways away. I'll concede the point to you Cap'n.

I think JetBlue is the one with that and maybe the guys who wear the leather jackets and look like cowboys ...

My CP was tellin me this as I was debating upgrade or moving to the our other aircraft ... looooooooooooooong story.

Heh! OK deserteagle. I had to stand my ground somewhere- every town on earth has some redeeming quality.

As for jetprops-- try to get on with a place that flies Dash-8's, ATR's, or Saab 340's. Unless the Saabs are painted white with red and blue stripes. Then run like hell.

Just curious.......what have you got against Saab's w/ Red, White and Blue stripes? Why do you hate the US so much? :sarcasm:

You are obviously talking about either Colgan or American Eagle......which is it and why? Again, just curious.

Eagle. I'm basing that on the current 7 year upgrade time there, and testimony from friends and coworkers that are there. They no likey. Work rules aren't too bad, but the flowbacks can make life miserable.

I don't know nothin' 'bout no Colgan.

The original poster menioned turboprops not having FMSs. Don't most modern turboprops have these? (Dash -8s, ATRs, Saab 340s).

Yes I am sure the newer ones have an FMS, but I am looking at regions air, most likely flying a JS32 (not the 340A's they have online) that doesnt even have an autopilot. This could be fun, and a almost guarantee a couple years from now when i eventually turn 23. I dont think i had enough fun yet in college, so i will stay in the town just a little longer..lol

Ha we have on the Beech 19hondo two VORs, DME, and thats it.

Our Saabs have the same thing. Talked to a buddy in training for Eagle on the ATR basically the same thing.
