Turbo cool down?

Yeah, but for a redundancy reason. Ballbearing (oil less) are so simple. My brothers race car uses them. Twin 84mm (IIRC). No lines going to the turbos at all. And th ball bearings are ceramic to deal with the heat.
Because you can't make an electronic, variable-advance ignition system with an independent, internal power supply...

It'd be heresy, and cost a ridiculous amount to be certified. The more regulated the industry, the less innovative it is.

There is a fella here at SZP who just was granted approval in europe for his ignition system. He is now going after FAA approval. It's some kind of electronic ignition system that is self supporting (kinda like the link you supplied). He owns a Long EZ that holds a few speed records, and uses his ignition system.
