I nearly didn't believe it, but here are three different stories confirming it. Why they'd be so stupid is beyond me, but good on TSA for catching them.

At least seven members of a reality TV show production crew were arrested after authorities said they tried to get what appeared to be a fake bomb through security at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Authorities said the crew for a show picked up by CNBC, but were not employees of the cable network, attempted to get the faux explosive through security in a carry-on bag at the airport on Thursday. But Transportation Security Administration officers spotted the phony device and pulled the crew members aside.

They were arrested at the airport on multiple charges and could also face fines of more than $13,000 each for violating TSA regulations.

CNBC declined to comment.

Setup by TSA to get some good publicity?

I could totally see them doing this. Every other investigation found them highly incompetent. Like 99% of test material got through. Wonder if they had another failed inspection recently and they did this to get ahead of the bad press.

Although having worked in the press industry on the IT side I could see a recent college grad trying to make a name for themselves by putting a cartoon bomb in their luggage to make a story out of it.

Just heard a blurb on the news today - it wasn’t even a fake bomb, it was a device that runs an air compressor to vacuum pack clothing... anyone seeing any confirmation of this?

I just learned yesterday that secondary screening at the gate is a thing. Their choice of flights is highly suspect as well. Hey, let’s inconvenience the 30 people going to Columbia, MO, but I bet they never show up to the 747 to Heathrow.
