TSA Security Awareness Training

This just keeps getting fuller and fuller of fail.

I just may print that and give it to work.......

I haven't instructed in a couple of years but got a letter from the TSA that is a bit ambiguous. However, it basically says that as part of the TSA annual inspection process, we are providing you an opportunity to voluntarily submit copies of the required 49 CFR Part 1552 "Security Awareness Training Certificate" for you and your employees having direct contact with flight training candidates.

My instructor ticket is still valid but I fly regional 121 now, so I haven't instructed and don't plan to anytime soon if I can help it. Do any of you current CFI's have any knowledge of this? I'm thinking about just tossing the letter but since I'm on these forums, thought I might ask the question here.

Thanks.

Heyas DFWMIA,

Well, I wouldn't toss the letter. From what I understand, the TSA has a really hard time comprehending that while some people have a current CFI, not everyone instructs, and not all CFIs that instruct do it as a business or as part of a school.

The guidance that I have gotten is that the requirement for the initial security training and/or recurrent training is only if you are an active instructor (whatever that means...I take that to mean exercising the priviledges of your certificate).

The fact that you aren't active isn't enough for the TSA to stop bugging you. If there is a number or inspector that the letter mentioned, I would give him/her a call and explain that you are not actively instructing, nor will you in the forseeable future, and to please note in their database that you are "inactive". That should be enough for them.

Hope this helps.

Don't you guys understand that this training is needed in order to insure that you are safe in the US? And that the TSA is here to insure your safety at airports and in air transportation? What's the matter with you people? Are you un-American?

:D:sarcasm::D

They hate us because we're free!

LOL. On a similar note...you guys think you have it bad fighting airline management? Or the TSA? Try having DHS as your boss........it's an exercise in seeing just how much incompetence can be generated on any given month.

Let me guess.

High responsibility, low competence and zero accountability?
