TSA Pre-Check For Dispatchers

I thought KCM was something between ALPA and the TSA. Would it be nice if they would share with us - of course - but I don't think they will. It's the same as giving a SIDA badge to a Dispatcher - it's not if it's when someone bypasses security that will screw it for everyone.

ALPA and TSA, yes, with the laptops verifying the crew. Having worked at TSA before, it may be too complicated to let dispatchers into the mix. Next thing you know, the officers will get an addendum on how to inspect their uniforms/wings.

Not just ALPA as Flight Attendants are also utilizing KCM.

KCM is meant for crew who have to catch the 5am van to the airport, not a dispatcher commuting or doing proficiency rides. Sorry guys, when I travel out of uniform, even in business casual for jumpseating, I utiliize regular security with my crew ID. I mean you no disrespect, but I don't think that it would be appropriate for you to have access to it.
There is a big difference between crew who have to hassle with security every day, sometimes multiple times a day, and a dispatcher that may have to see security once a week. Maybe. I think both ALPA and the TSA are already concerned about the scope of the program and abuses that have occurred due to idiots bringing in prohibited items.
You should be afforded the same courteousies as any out of uniform crew member or airport employee going through the employee line when traveling on business.

Agreed. There is no reason for us to be in known crew member nor do I want to be. All I want is to be able to use an employee line at the airport...and not have to take my shoes off and go through the body scanner...I just want to use the metal detector. I don't really think that is too much to ask. What I am bothered by is if you are not in uniform...you are treated worse than a lot of paying revenue passengers who don't work in the industry and I have a problem with that.

Having Crew on your badge will not let you through the crew line if you are not in uniform. I can see the issue if they allowed it crew/dispatchers to use the line if not on duty the line would backup and impede working crews. We should be able to use the TSA Precheck line though with our badges and the ticket saying CASS.

I think this sums it up perfectly. We've got it pretty well made being able to go through a crew/employee line as is. There's no reason working Flight Crew (yes, even FAs) should have to wait behind us in the KCM line whether we're doing fam rides or just leisure travel. I'd go so far as to say if you're a commuting Dispatcher consistently having trouble with security then you're just dealing with one of the many disincentives of being a commuting Dispatcher.

Funny how sometimes those many disincentives add up and are still outweighed by the one disincentive of permanently relocating to certain headquarters cities.

Fortunately, you love ATL with all your heart, right? :)

That's not exactly true depending on the airport, the TSA agent, the day of the week, the tides, the phase of the moon, the aligning of Mars and the center of the Galaxy, and whatever random criteria they use for "local" rules.

I have an idea so TSA doesnt get confused that we dont have a uniform. We can all get white polos with five strips ?! Any takers ?

Historically I have been directed to the crew line by TSA at the mere sight of an employee badge, and most of that was when I was a CSS or GM.

I have Global Entry/Pre Check; most of the time when I was jumpseating, I would go to the counter and list there and they would attach my PC number on the ticket to satisfy the BlueShirts. Most of the time, it's the smaller airports (the "spokes") that give you an issue, because they are taught that they are the last line of defense. Welcome to the post 9/11 world.

In the bigger airports, such as ATL, ORD, BOS, overall, I don't have any issues, but again, like afore mentioned, you have that one BlueShirt who's dying for an Oscar nomination in Security Theater.
